Unicorns were a good place to start because there wasn’t much danger for her there because she wasn’t evil or at least she hoped that a unicorn wouldn’t consider her evil. They could become very dangerous if they were attacking something they viewed as evil. Dealing with a unicorn would help her to decide if what she was doing was right.
Depending on what she transformed Dreze’s army into she might be taking away the human lives of the people for the rest of their existence. Was she justified in what she was planning to do? Her code was not as strict as that of the holy unicorn but it was certain that she had doubts and discussing it with a creature that had a firm moral code would help her sort her own feelings. Dreze and his forces were far worse than the kingdom of Dar but that didn’t mean King Emeril’s people were all saints.
Any unicorn would be found far from civilization because they were often hunted by the sentient races for their horns. The horn of the unicorn could heal any wound or disease and could even give life to the dead with the magic stored inside. She had seen black market unicorn horns before, they turned black with the foulness of slaying such creatures of good. Only once had Marina seen the brilliant white glow of a horn that had been given to someone the man had kept it in his store and was unwilling to part with it at any price.
If she could convince the unicorn her plan was justified she could secure the gift of a shed horn. Once every one hundred years, a unicorn shed it’s horn but they only gave them out to the most worthy of people or those who had given them a great favor. With that in hand, she wouldn’t need the other ingredients to complete her work.
Marina looked out in all directions and could not even see a fire from where she was. It was a good place to start looking for a unicorn. Great waves of green forest rolled and shook in the wind drawing a smile to her face from the beauty. She had often considered becoming a druid, running barefoot through the forest as a child but her Father had always returned her to the books. Sighing, she set out to do her work.
Powders soon formed magical symbols and her circle of protection was formed that would ignite like a beacon to any creature sensitive to magic out here like a unicorn who was certain to come investigate. Arcane magic users were weak against unicorns who could easily shatter even some of the most powerful magical barriers which, is why magic users hired hunters to do their dirty work for them. She opened a sack and pulled out her lunch and started to eat to see whose attention she had attracted.
