Small path

    by: bolgerjc Author IconMail Icon
Sir Garrett decided to climb along the smaller path so he could keep on his armor and fight properly. If there were any opponents he could get rid of any advantages in numbers they had on these narrow paths. He moved slowly up the mountain as the rain had made some of the ground slick to the point of serious danger.

A person was up collecting eggs from the mountain birds to sell at steep prices to nobles who came to the area for the delicacy of the food. It was hard to believe that just a few eggs could give people the money to survive upon for several months. There were many risks involved including the griffins he was looking for. A giant animal soared high above his head landing on a perch eyeing the intruders to the domain.

The woman didn’t notice the danger she was in as she focused on gathering eggs from the mountain side never seeing the deadly master of the mountain gazing at her with hostile attention. He wanted to yell and warn her but he was afraid to scare the woman so he prayed to the Gods that this was the creature he was looking for and prepared a rope.

He had trained to lasso an animal many times over the years but as the griffin launched itself into the air he worried that he would fail. The creature was so focused on the target it didn’t notice the rope until it was too late. The creature gave a deafening shriek as it tried to fly away taking the paladin with it and the villager looked on in shock as Sir Garrett soared past her.

Gusts of wind smashed into the paladin from the powerful animal as he held on for dear life. He wasn’t sure he had the right animal because this seemed more difficult than it should be. When he had found Thunder he had felt a connection and it had been easy. The others in the order had warned him it wouldn’t be as easy with a griffin because they were a far different animal and he would have to prove his worth to it before the creature would accept him. They had never been very specific about how it was done, only that it varied. The creature dropped in the sky so he was hitting the tree tops smashing them as his body was battered.
