Lady Nelson watched the night sky wondering what the stars were. Some of the religions claimed they were the markers for great heroes the Gods had honored, others claimed they were other worlds and a few cults claimed they were alien beings with powers to rival the Gods. She took a sip of her hot tea as a cool breeze gave her a slight chill. Whatever they were they weren’t her main concern at the moment.
A flock of flying creatures had been slowly following them for a while and as they approached she could see they were gargoyles. Fearsome magical creatures made of stone that were usually guardians of locations of artifacts. They were closing the distance to the ship and she wondered if they view the ship as a threat but that seemed a bit unlikely as this wasn’t the first trip to the south this vessel had made.
“Gentlemen,” Temperance called out to the sailors. “We seem to have uninvited guests following us.”
The men looked where she was pointing and quickly ran to take actions. She made a mental note to have more weapons aboard her ship because there were still many predators in the skies. Temperance watched the gigantic bolt smash into one of the gargoyles shattering it to pieces but the others just quickened their pace and scattered.
Sailors frantically fired shots at the magical creatures, unfortunately, most of them bounced off harmlessly. Lady Nelson watched closely and saw the wings were vulnerable because even a little damage to them sent them tumbling to the ground. She had a few throwing daggers on her body that she could use to assist but at least two dozen of the creatures were going to be reaching the ship soon. Her large dress wouldn’t be very good in combat so she needed to change tactics soon.
