To her surprise she deepened her smile at him causing to give her a a more fearsome frown and they stood this way for several minutes before the elder interrupted them with his laughter.
“Laughing Coyote, I would like you to meet the legendary Eric of the wolverine tribe,” the elder smiled. “He needs someone with a cunning mind to assist him, do you know anyone like that who might be able to help him?”
The young woman laughed, “Nope, but I will help him until someone better comes along.”
“This child looks like she is barely away from suckling at her Mother’s breast,” Eric growled, the cheerful attitude of this young creature was grating on him. “Are you sure you have no one better to assist me? You could come with me.”
Elder Coyote shook his head, “I have work to be done here and it is time for the young to take some of the burden off of my back. She will do an excellent job for you and be of more help than I could. The wolverine can’t be angry all of the time. Sometimes even the wolverine must laugh.”
Eric turned to small figure and glowered down at her, “Let us go. If dealing with you is what the gods will of me, I shall accept the burden.”
“You really know what to say to a lady to make her feel welcomed,” Laughing Coyote jabbed him gently before darting out of his reach.
“Oh, wise Coyote where shall we go first,” Eric growled sarcastically, as they left the village.
“A joke from the Wolverine!?!” She teased. “That deserves a proper response. What should it be?
