But what Evan wanted to do was simply to go out shopping. He wanted to be among people and look at pretty things. It didn't matter if he bought anything he just loved to shop. "Mom, sweetie, before you go, can you drive me to the mall?" Evan only had a learners permit. He couldn't drive the car whether he had his mother's personality or not.
Miranda didn't have to be asked twice. She wanted to drive just like any teenager who hadn't been driving for that long. "Sure, when do you want to go?"
"How about right now?"
Miranda bolted for the door. "Hold your horses," Evan said. "I have to get a few things, like money."
"Oh, OK." Miranda was excited to drive the car, it was more of a thrill than playing her games. Evan walked to his room to get his wallet and money. His gait was feminine but it seemed so natural to him that he didn't even think that he was 'walking strangely.' On the way, he realized that it would be more fun to shop with a friend. But none of his friends would want to look at what he wanted to look it. That took a little of the wind from his sails.
"Mom," Evan said, "maybe this isn't such a good idea."
Miranda just wanted to drive the car. But it didn't occur to her she didn't need Evan's permission. She wanted to take him just to go. "What's wrong?"
"I have no one to go with. You don't want to go clothes shopping with me?"
"No way!" Miranda shook her head.
Then something occurred to him. His friends wouldn't want to shop, but Miranda's friends (especially Denise) would love the idea. "I have an idea, let's swap friends. That way I'll have some company while shopping." There would also be good conversation and a pleasant lunch too.
