Chapter #3

...school.

"What?" Evan asked, not quite sure what his sister meant.

"You know, let's swap where we go to school. You'll become a college student and I'll become a high schooler again. If you really do have this power, I think it might be fun to be in high school again. Besides, you look like you need a break and since I'm out for the summer you won't have to go to school today."

"Sounds fair to me," Evan agreed. "Now, let's see here. How does this power work?"

Stephanie laughed. "You tell me."

Evan shrugged. "I guess I just concentrate or something." He focused on swapping school with Stephanie and, moments later, he felt an energy flowing through him for a brief second. "There. I think it worked."

"I feel the same, bro," Stephanie said.

"Well, it's not like it's something we can check easily to see if it worked," Evan said.

He started thinking of how they could test it out, but nothing immediately came to mind. Luckily, their mother happened to walk by and solve the problem for them. "Evan, stop distracting your sister or you'll make her late for school," she said.

Evan and Stephanie both looked at their mother in surprise. "Like, for high school?" Evan asked.

"Yes, for high school," his mom replied. "Where else would she be going?" She seemed to think nothing was wrong with this statement.

Evan and Stephanie looked at each other, resisting the urge to laugh.

"I can't believe that actually worked!" Stephanie exclaimed once their mother was out of earshot.

"I guess that dream was true after all," Evan said in agreement.

"Well, you heard Mom," Stephanie said. "I'm gonna be late for school. I'll try not to fail all your classes for you!" she added, jokingly.

"Ha ha, very funny," Evan replied.

"Don't worry bro, I've been through those classes before."

"Fair enough," Evan said. "And you'll have my schedule to help you figure out where to go."

"Sounds good," Stephanie said. "Enjoy your day off Evan."

Once Stephanie left, Evan went back to his room and climbed back into bed. Since he didn't have to go to school anymore, he was going to take advantage of it.

Evan woke up a few hours later feeling much better. After grabbing a bite to eat, Evan plopped down on the couch and thought about what to do next. His sisters and his friends were all at school and both his parents were at work, so he couldn't do swaps with any of them just yet. "What to do, then?" Evan asked himself.
