As they reached the front entrance, Miranda made her way inside as Evan headed off toward the adjoining elementary building.
‘This is going to be fun,’ she thought to herself as walked down the hall. She found herself stopping at Evan’s, well now technically her, locker without even having to think about it.
‘Wow, we really did trade all our knowledge,’ she mused. ‘Like I know we have double English first period, followed by Biology.’ She even found she knew the combination to the locker and which books to grab almost instinctively.
“Hey Randa!” a voice called out behind her. She turned to see the towering figure of Mark, Evan’s former best friend, followed closely by Scott and Matt. She guessed this was now her little ‘crew’ for the morning.
“Hey guys,” she grinned. “How it hanging?” she added using a phrase she’d heard Evan use before.
“Same shit, different day,” Mark grinned. Normally, Miranda would have chastised him for swearing, but instead she found herself chuckling.
“Yeah, know the feeling,” she smirked as she slammed her locker. “Let’s go. Mr. Carson won’t like it if we’re late,” she added with a sigh and an eye roll.
“Tell me about it. He nearly gave me detention just cause I arrived as the bell went,” Matt groaned as the four of them made their way to the classroom.
When they arrived, Miranda made a beeline for what she knew was her seat, and quickly placed her books on the desk. She became aware of someone sitting down next to her and was surprised to feel a peck on her cheek.
“Hey baby,” Amy whispered. “Didn’t see you pull up this morning,” she added as she nonchalantly got her own books out. Miranda stared at her for a few moments. Did the friend trade somehow mean that Amy was now her girlfriend and not Evan’s? That would make sense-- he was a teacher now, and it wouldn’t do for a teacher to date a student. But wasn’t Miranda still technically an adult?
‘I’ll play along for now seeing as she doesn’t see anything weird about this and I’ll mention it to Evan at lunch,’ she thought to herself. Her thoughts were soon interrupted by the arrival of Mr. Carson, who briskly grabbed their attention and began to teach. They were studying Romeo and Juliette and were beginning with a quiz about what they’d covered so far. Despite knowing she’d covered this herself at school, Miranda found she couldn’t remember a thing about the play, almost as if she had to learn about it all over again.
“Seems like Evan hasn’t been paying attention in class,” she muttered to herself as she struggled to answer some of the questions Mr. Carson was asking.
“Psst,” Amy whispered, catching her attention. She looked over and saw a quick flash of her answer sheet. She looked up at the girl, who flashed her a quick smile and a wink before pursing her lips into a kiss. Miranda mouthed a quiet ‘thank you’ and corrected some of her own answers.
‘I’ll need to have words with that boy about his studies,’ she thought to herself as the lesson continued on. Before she knew it, the quiz was over and they continued on with the next part of the play. She was surprised to find the subject boring her, and she quickly zoned out. She was jolted out of her stupor by the bell.
“Hey Randa,” Amy grabbed her shoulder and lean in to whisper in her ear. “What do you say to skipping biology and finding somewhere private?” she added. Miranda felt goosebumps crawl over skin as she felt Amy’s breath on her neck.
