         "Wait!" she cries after you.
You roll your eyes and turn back around to face that small, girlish voice. "What?" you snarl. The girl matches the voice: petite, bright eyes, and young. So very young. You turn your attention to her dragon companions, the red male and blue female. They both glare at you suspiciously. Well, who doesn't?
"That was very brave of you, sir." The girl touches your arm with a sweet smile, the voice dripping with wonder and awe. "My name is Iris, and my friends are--"
You shrug away, "Yes, eternally grateful, I'm sure." You try to turn away again, but those eyes! Iris stops you dead in your tracks with another friendly touch. "What do you want?"
"I just wanted to thank you," Iris whimpered. Like everyone else, she recoiled from you. "Because you didn't have to--"
"That's right, I didn't have to save you and your sorry lizard friends." You turn around, but, somehow, the blue dragon has managed to block your path. She growls at you. "What, scaly?"
"We could have gotten along without you, you know," the blue she-dragon roars in your face. You are unfazed as she raises a clawed foot to your sword. "If you knew who she was, you wouldn't dare threaten Iris."
"Sapphire!" Iris cries. "He helped us. You saw him against those Griffins!"
"But we didn't need it," Sapphire grumbles. But she still retreated into a defensive crouch, glaring daggers at you.
"Still," Iris counters. She looks at you again, but this time, you can't pull away again. "You must be a knight. Sir--?"
"Magnius. No fancy title, no fancy clothes. Just Magnius," you say. Then you stop yourself. What was so different about this little girl that you decide to open up to her? Next thing you know, you two will be weeping and sharing secrets, so you clam up.
"Magnius." Does she ever stop smiling? "Magnius, we already owe you for killing those Griffins. You seem like a good man, worthy of knighthood. Would your consider accompanying us on our quest."
"NO!" Sapphire roars behind you. You feel her smoking breath on the back of your neck.
The red dragon growls, too. "I wouldn't trust him, either, Iris." He took a great whiff. "He seems particularly dark."
What, can dragons sense those sort of things? "I thought you didn't need me anyways," you shrug. But they have you cornered, between the simpering smile and two growling dragons. "Seems like your lizard friends have you well taken care of."
"We might need you!" Iris pleads. "We're on an important mission. And I'm sure that, when we're done, you shall find the reward favorable."
You pause, staring deep into her shining, young eyes and bright, captivating smile. You take a deep breath and say,

You have the following choices:

*Noteb*
1. "No thanks, girlie; I'm not your babysitter."

*Noteb*
2. "Yeah, sure, I feel awful generous today."

3. "Reward? How much?"

*Noteb* indicates the next chapter needs to be written.
