Just when Steven had gotten the cards out of the box, the room got dark. Everything except the three teenagers, the box and the cards turned black. Steven dropped the cards in surprise.
"What the-?!", exclaimed Steven and looked around. "What has happened here? Why is everything black?".
Just before one of his friends could answer although the answer would have just been the same question Steven had asked. From the box emerged black smoke which formed a cloud. Then red eyes appeared. The eyes seemed to look directly at the three although the three were positioned in a triangle around the box.
"Ah! Freedom! I'm finally free!", said a voice which came presumably from the cloud. The eyes seemed to look even more at the three. It felt like they were looking directly into the soul. "And I have new victims.", chuckled the voice.
"Victims?", asked Julie shocked and earned another deep chuckle from the voice.
"Yes, victims. You see, I'm M'Rtlor. I'm a... how would you humans call it? Ah, yes. A demon. I'm imprisoned in this box and these cards. No matter what I do, I can't get free but that doesn't mean I can't have my fun.".
Steven could swear he saw a faint mouth with a big grin in the cloud.
"These cards are special and you are my prisoners right now.", the disembodied voice explained. "You can't escape from this realm if I don't allow it. Here come the cards in play. I'll allow you to leave if you play my game.".
"What kind of game?", asked Julie frightened.
"A wonderful one.", chuckled the voice. "I'll grant you freedom if you gain 100 points in my game but be warned! If you get negative points you'll die.".
Jason gulped. "And how do we get points?", asked Jason.
"I was coming to that point. Why are you humans always so impatient? You see this board?". A board appeared beside the box. It had three rectangles at the top and three at the bottom. "You can see the three rectangles at the top. Each one of these belongs to one of you. At the top there will be a picture of some person displayed. The ones at the bottom are for the cards your friend has dropped. The rectangles on the left belong to you, girl. The one in the middle belongs to the boy on your left (Steven) and the last one to the boy on your right (Jason). When the game begins a picture appears and a card. You will swap what is on the card with the person. Then you will have to... Hm... Let's see... Let's begin small, you have to live two days with the swap.".
"And what has this to do with these points you mentioned?", asked Steven.
"Yes, the points. You will have to pretend that the swap is normal. Reality changes to accomodate but people are able to notice the changes if you act strange. If you act like you should in this reality than everything is alright. If you "survive" the time limit than you'll get 5 points. If you're spotted, so someone finds out about the swap, you'll be transported back here and lose 20 points. Remember if you get negative points then you'll die.".
"But! You can't do this! This is impossible!", yelled Julie.
A depp laugh could be heard. "You sound like you have a choice. And to make things more interesting for me: You have to swap with a person from the opposite gender. Okay, now then. We will start.".
Steven wanted to protest but his voice had suddenly vanished. The cloud must have made them all silent for now. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
