Kesh stared at the grandfather clock at the end of the hallway as its pendulum swayed back and forth. This had to be one of his dullest jobs yet, for what it was going to pay. One would expect there to be bandits and monsters breaking coming in endless waves for a job that paid for about eight months of his living expenses. Still, here Kesh was. Sitting beside a old wooden door and making sure nobody entered the room. Suddenly, a shadow slipped across the grandfather clock. Kesh had some company.
Kesh stood up and placed himself in front of the door while three shady-looking people walked down the hallway. One of them had a white robe with glowing orange and red thread. The other two people had simple black cloaks and followed the person in the middle. They stopped about three feet from the guard and the one in the middle simply said.
"Let us pass. We have urgent business with the occupant of that room." Kesh just blinked as a proud woman's voice ordered him to let them pass. They stood there waiting for Kesh to let them through.
"Sorry miss, my job is to not let anyone into this room. Please vacate this building the same way you came." He said it and stood firm as the woman in the middle removed her hood. Kesh instantly recognized her face.
"I, the currently reigning queen of this country, demand you move aside. This does not concern a common guard off the streets. And if you wish to continue, my personal escorts will dispatch you of your current job and possibly your life." Her eyes were emotionless as well as her face, but Kesh simply tightened the shield onto his arm in response.
"Even though you are the current queen of this country, I have been given a job and I will see it finished. Please remove yourselves from this building and I promise none of you will be harmed." Kesh stared straight into the queen's eyes and got into defensive stance.
"Do you seriously think that a commoner can fight on par with not one, but two of the elites of the royal army? Victoria, end this arrogant man's life." The queen simply motioned for the woman on her right and their was a sword already flying towards Kesh's heart.
Kesh simply lifted his shield up, deflecting the strike into the wooden door, and with a quick bash the blade snapped about a inch from the hilt. The girl's hood fell and she was just staring at what was left of her weapon in shock. Kesh then knocked the blade out of the door and slid it the girl.
"I'm sorry about your sword, but I will only give one more warning. Leave or I will remove you by force."
