This choice: You are now something more, you're now a werewolf. • Go Back...Chapter #5You are now something more, you're now a we... by: Dingo The roar echoes throughout the morning and you hear hundreds of birds fly away for miles, and the forest seems to fall silent for a moment. All you hear is your own breathing, hoarse and strained. You were already tired before but now you were exhausted. You touched where the bear clawed you and looked at your hand, covered in blood. Your hand was now very muscular and covered in black fur. Your skin had darkened and the ends of your fingers sported long claws. You feel to the forest floor and passed out from the shock of it all.
You awoke to Ash, now back in human form and wearing your hoodie again, sat curled up in a ball next to you. He felt you shift and sat up, still wearing nothing but your hoodie from earlier. You looked at him got a better look at him in the morning light. He was covered in bruises and dirt, his eyes were no longer glowing but still held their light, amber color. You sat up and tried to get your bearings. You could feels leaves embedded in your back. You were almost shirtless, tatters of what used to be your favorite shirt were strewn across the forest floor around you and all that was left hung on you like a toga. Your pants had been ripped up and split down the length of them from your transformation. Your shoes were completely ruined and unusable. You felt the wound from your battle with the bear and the wound was completely closed up and scarred over. You turn to ash and ask "how long was I out?"
He held up his small hand and showed four fingers.
"Four hours???" He shook his head.
"FOUR DAYS?!???" He shook his head.
"No freaking way, you're not telling me... Four minutes!?!?" He nodded.
There was no way, none of this was making any sense. You looked down at yourself and directly in front of you sat a much larger timber wolf that looked very similar to Ash. Her hair was a bit lighter than Ash's but her eyes were identical.
Oh shit, you thought, and scurried backwards, your back now up against a tall pine tree. The she-wolf walked toward you with a sense of dignity and presence that was intimidating and made you quiver where you sat. Ash ran up, turning back into the little wolf pup and greeting his mother. She licked him affectionately, you could see her tail start to wag, but when she focused back on you, she was still and silent. Her eyes locked with yours. She opened her mouth and a woman's voice came out. "You're... You're like us. Why are you scared? We are one. Wait, no you still have the scent of man on you. Explain yourself." You stutter over your words, trying to explain "I got lost, I tried to find my family, I don't know..."
Ash interrupted in human form, tapping his mother and signing to her. He pointed at you, made a biting motion, then continued to explain to his mother.
"Okay, but who is he?"
"Just some kid? You bit him and... That's not supposed to happen, but it's not unheard of. Wow, you surprise me every day. I'm so proud of you and you've been so brave." She nuzzled him and he hugged her head, staying in his human form.
"My son has told me you've been a great friend to him and saved his life on at least a few occasions. I am grateful, humbled, and in your debt. I will help you in any way I can." She sits on her haunches and her face softens. She bows to you in a dignified manner, and when she leans back up and says "now that you are one of us, you will need a new name, a wolf's name. A name that fits you."
She paused, and thought for a moment.
"As a wolf, you will be known as Kodiak, rising to the strength of a bear to protect others."
She stood up and so did you, both of you proud and she made you feel like you belonged, like you were worth something.
"Now, what can I do to help you now."
You took a few minutes to puzzle and decide, looking around, looking at the two of them. You thought about your family, what they meant to you, and how they treated you.
You made your decision.
"I want... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
