Stephanie glanced up at the mirror over the sink, her eyes tracing the thick black locks that swept down over her slender yet curvy frame. She then turned her gaze down to the little pill bottle in her hand with a frown etched on her face. The young woman had worked hard throughout her high school years, but when it came to getting a place of her own away from her barely present parents, minimum wage wasn’t going to be enough. She was dreading the idea of having to stay at home for a while longer when she saw an ad in the newspaper advertising a new drug trial from Gaia Corp. They were holding examinations for prospective applicants, and those that were accepted would get a rather large amount of money regularly. Stephanie couldn’t pass up a chance like that. So she traveled to the local branch of the company, went through the exam and was accepted within a matter of days. It all happened so fast that Stephanie was more than a little shocked, but the first portion of the money was soon added to her account and helped ease her monetary woes.
Today she had been called into the Gaia Corp branch again and was given the bottle that now rested in her hand as well as a sheaf of forms that she would have to fill out regularly. The company representative had been more than a little vague about what the little pink pills were supposed to do, and what she had said had been too technical for Stephanie to follow. She had already used most of the money they had given to her already though, so it wasn’t like she could back out. She shoved any lingering misgivings aside as she twisted the top off and fished out one of the pills, before popping it into her mouth and swallowing. Setting the bottle down on the counter, she headed for the main portion of her small apartment, remembering that she had to fill out the first form once she had taken the first pill.
With that finished, the young woman sat back in her chair. A hand drifted down to her belly; it felt a little queasy for some reason. She frowned again as the feeling only got worse.
