Alice spotted a girl who, because she happened to be in Ronnie’s dorm room, she assumed to be Ronnie’s roommate. She looked to be a bit older than Alice, or maybe even Megan, and that didn’t instill the poor freshman—Newbee? Is that what everyone was going to call her?—with a lot of confidence.
Alice had always gotten along well with her sister, and she was older than her. So by that logic, Alice reassured herself, it shouldn’t be any issue for her to hang out with some older students!
Alice let out a determined little puff of air before realizing that Megan and Ronnie had receded further into the dorm room. She could still hear their voices, but the realization that she had been left all alone with a strange girl that she’d never met before (in a dorm room that she’d never been in before in a school that she was just now getting used to!) took the wind right out of her sails. She had spent so much time making her situation palatable for herself that Alice had forgotten to actually psyche herself up…
On the bright side, Ronnie at least looked to be a hospitable host. The smells wafting out the dorm and into the hallway looked to be coming from whatever she’d left on the coffee table between the two loveseats. A plate of cookies, what looked to be a slice of pie, and a little stack of brownies! How cute!
Unhealthy—her Mother probably would have scolded her just for being around those things!—but sweet. Ronnie’s roommate must have agreed, considering that she hadn’t stopped snacking since Megan and Alice had come inside.
"H-Hi." Alice said sheepishly, her voice just barely managing to crest the volume of the girl's snacking, "I-I'm Alice, Megan's roommate."
