And so Saturday rolled around. The third Saturday in a row where Alice hadn't gone running. It was however the first one where Alice had nothing to do. Usually she'd wake up a little early and go eat breakfast with Melissa. Sometimes she'd call her sister, and other times she'd go visit Ronnie.
But so far her schedule was looking as clear as day. Ronnie was tutoring Melissa, and her sister wasn't answering her phone.
So she lay there idly on the couch, bored and morose while she stared blankly at the television. The thought had crossed her to go peek in on Melissa and Ronnie's tutoring session, but realized that such a move might not be appreciated by her waistline'which she was working so dreadfully hard to watch.
It wasn't until Hillary awoke, her thunderous footsteps sounding her activity in the dorm, that Alice had any companionship at all.
'Mornin'.' Hillary smacked her full lips as she stretched her doughy arms high in the sky.
She had dressed in a white 'BA' tank top that rode up incredibly on her mighty middle. It looked to be far too small for her, judging by the several inches of freckled belly flesh that hung lazily from the gap between her shirt and waistband. With every earth-shaking step, all of Hillary Heart's humongousness would jiggle and shake from the bottom up. Her enormous thighs'painted blue by skin-tight sweatpants'swayed side to side as her awkward wiggle-waddle took her into the room.
'It's eleven.' Alice stated somberly
'At night?' Hillary asked, turning her head to look out the window as one hand lifted her gut to scratch underneath
'No, it's almost noon.'
'Like I said, good morning.' Hillary said with a hardly infectious smile as she tottered towards the kitchen, 'Geez Ally, what's got your britches in a brunch'oops, I meant bunch.' She took some time to rub her belly dotingly, 'Guess you know where my mind is.'
Alice could agree. Since becoming so concerned with her weight, the little blonde had actively attempted to cut her appetite back some in hopes of warding off any more excess pudge. Her results were questionable. While she hadn't been eating as much, she'd somehow still managed to gain two pounds since Thursday.
'Sorry'' Alice turned her head to face the gigantic ginger pouring orange juice, 'It's just' Nothing, I guess. How'd you sleep?'
'Like a big fat baby.' Hillary admitted with a giggle, 'Grace and I had so much fun last night. Not that you would have known since you decided to conk out on us.'
'You didn't get home until one!' Alice half-reprimanded her round roomie as she worked herself back into a sitting position, clearing Hillary a space on the couch, 'I tried to wait for you guys.'
'Well next time try to wait a little longer.' Hillary said with a smile as she lowered herself in the spacious spot provided for her more than ample rump, 'Maybe then you'll get to eat chocolate with the big girls. Pun not intended.'
Alice huffed from her seat, honestly wishing that she had stayed up late to hang out with Hillary. Even if Grace was involved. With how often those two fought, and given how much Hillary's best friend seemingly loathed her, Alice would have gladly sat through another night of awkward silences than have spent it alone and friendless.
'Well aren't you grumpy?' Hillary ribbed her friend, 'Something on your mind, Ally?'
'It's.. it's nothing.'
'Well then you're pretty daft for getting so upset at me over nothing.' Hillary answered with a little puff of orange-flavored air, 'Throwing a real Hillary Heart style tantrum and being all moody won't get you anywhere.'
'You're right, I'm sorry'' Alice sighed, 'It's just' well''
'Ah ah!' Hillary said pseudo-sternly at Alice's apology, 'No use saying you're sorry now.'
There was a tough silence as Alice failed to recognize the lack of seriousness in Hillary's voice. She hung her head low and let herself pretty awful about herself until Hillary finished her sentence.
'Tell you what. I'll look the other way this one time so long as we get a head start on that Spa Sunday you promised me.' She said with a wicked grid, 'Something to help tear you out of that terrible funk you've been in for the past few days.'
'Deal.' Alice said with a little laugh as Hillary whipped out her cell-phone.
Maybe not running didn't have to be so bad. At least not today...
