It was July and Bert had just graduated from the nearby community college with a Bachelor of Arts and absolutely no prospects for a career. The early morning sun warmed his face and Bert groaned and rolled over to the cooler side of the bed. The alarm read 11:30am but Bert had nowhere to be that day. Such was the luxuries of the unemployed. Sure Bert was smart and talented, but after applying for hundreds of jobs nothing was looking promising.
He sat up in bed and lazily dragged his feet into his slippers. Today was going to be another day of job hunting and rejection he thought as he made his way to the kitchen to make his coffee. Bert was clinging to his upbeat attitude lately and every rejection tested his grasp to it ever so slightly.
He turned on the television in time for the weather report on the local news. Jack Calhoun local weatherman was assuring the tri-county area that despite a cold front moving through in a few days the area could expect sunny and warm conditions for the next days.
"At least the weather is good." Bert said to himself before he took a sip from his black coffee.
He started to think that maybe the job search could wait. Today was too good of a day to spend filling out application after application.
