Chapter #4

Wanda feeds her feelings

    by: WritingInTheVoid Author IconMail Icon
Wanda Maximoff was a troubled soul.
Sure, her abilities and courage had saved the world countless times (she had also rewritten reality once but that's not important) and had earned her the respect of her team mates through heroism.
Sadly though, deeds alone did not ease the witch's mind.

Wanda was no Steve Rogers, built on courage and morality with an unyielding belief in justice.
She wasn't a Peter Parker, a teenager innocent to the intricacies and cruelties of the world.
She wasn't even a Tony Stark, full of ego and able to hide her true feelings behind one liners and financial flash.
Despite all these characters close to her, Wanda was built on her grief and the harsh realities that had surrounded her younger years and nothing could change that.

Or so the chaos witch thought...

*knock knock knock*

"Not now" muttered Wanda, her Serbian accent still as present as ever despite living state side for some time now.

Apparently, words were not sufficient for her impromptu visitor though.

"Sorry Wanda, I just haven't seen you for days and I was..." started Vision as he drifted through the door to Wanda's room, only to stop mid sentence as her caught a glimpse of his friend and ally.

"I'm fine, just leave me in peace" asserted Wanda again, blissfully unaware of Vision stopping or staring for that matter.
The fact of the matter was, Wanda had nested herself in her room for quite some time and had managed to shut the outside world out completely.
Her time in solitude had also blinkered her to how she was handling her grief these days.

For some reason or another that the witch could not quite recall, she had been turned onto what her friends frequently referred to as 'comfort food' and, with said food not tasting terrible, Wanda had taken quite a fancy to it.
It also had the added bonus of cheering her up slightly when she was feeling particularly reflective or down.
Flash forward to the present and the results of Wanda's piqued interest in food had developed into the scene playing out before Vision.

Perched on her bed, Wanda was nestled in between the array of plush pillows at the headboard where her back was rested, legs sprawled down the bed whilst a wide assortment of food and drink items lazily danced through the air, circling the upper most portion of the bed as they did with a faint cloud of red holding each item in the air.

Vision's keen synthezoid eyes glimpsed Wanda's fingers moving ever so slowly against the fluffy duvet she was currently laid on top of, a clear sign that she was using her powers to cause the food to float as it did.

Right before his eyes, a subtle flick of an index finger pulled a burger from the food formation, drawing it slowly towards Wanda's mouth which she deftly opened in a well practiced rhythm to recieve the bread encased meat before casually flicking it away again.
The whole process was so refined that Wanda hadn't needed to move any more than the single finger controlling the burger which, upon returning the burger to its rightful place, had fallen back into line with the rest of her delicate hand movements.

"I'm just worried for you Wanda, nobody has seen you for days" finished Vision, his concern clear in his voice.

"I'm fine Vision, I did not want bothering."
As she spoke, Wanda shot a brief look towards the synthezoid in her doorway as a quick flash of red coloured her eyes to indicate her annoyance, which also caused the food items to spin slightly faster for a few seconds.

The glance was brief, but enough to tip Vision off that Wanda's reliance on food had started to have an effect on more than just her mental state.
The slight turn of her body had made it clear that the Serbian's middle had started to soften just enough to be picked up by the synthezoid, mostly due to the subtle roll forming around her waist caused by the awkward twist she put herself through so as to glare at Vision.
Maintaining his composure, Vision continued to air his concern.

"We are all your friends here and we only want the best for you" insisted Vision, daring to step closer to the woman on the bed

"I am fine" returned the witch as she pulled a large soda cup towards her, actually grabbing the cup mid air as it came towards her this time before posting the straw through her lips.

Halting his movement, Vision simply looked over his friend as she drank deeply from the cup before sending it back into the rotation around her.

"Don't forget we are here for you Wanda" finished Vision before turning to leave the room again, realising her was onto a losing battle.

As the door was about to close, the synthezoid felt a great deal of resistance stopping him from closing it fully and he turned to look back into the room.
Wanda was looking at him now, the barely noticeable increase in concentration proving that she had stopped the door closing, as a single tear ran down her cheek.

"Thank you" was all her silky Serbian voice uttered across the room but it was enough.

Vision simply nodded before turning away again and closing the door with ease, not wishing to pressure the witch any more than he already had.
As he rested against the door, making sure it had clicked behind him, a familiar face walked past.

"How is she Vision?" called the confident yet concerned voice of Steve Rogers as he passed the now closed room of Wanda Maximoff.

"Fine Captain" lied Vision, avoiding eye contact "Just fine"

Captain America simply nodded before grasping Vision's shoulder gently

"We're all a family here, she knows that deep down"

The words rang through Vision's synthetic ears long after Cap had walked off but he knew what he had to do.

'We're all family, and family look out for one another'
