Jessica Sneaks into the Virtual Reality researc...

Oh yes. This was going to be her best plan ever. The lean, pink haired arctic fox giggled to herself as she carefully climbed her way over the iron cast fence surrounding the university grounds.

Jessica had always been a bit of a wild child. Ever since she was a little girl, she'd compensate for her height with her attitude. Doing what she wanted, taking what she wanted, and all the while making it out into a great time. She loved to have fun, whether it be rock climbing with a friend, out on a date with some big, hunky slab of meat for a guy, or just doing the bump and grind with a dozen strangers in a night club. Tonight, however, had the potential to be the most fun that she ever had. Though she would never admit it to anyone, and even her roommate and BFF Allison was barely privy to the knowledge, but Jessica was a bit of a computer geek. She had a real knack for messing with code and programming, and had been 'sneaking' out to intern in the afternoons at the University's computer research wing. One of the more recent projects she had heard about was a prototype full-immersion virtual reality program. One that, despite her best efforts, she had been unable to get anywhere close too. After all, they didn't really need an intern to file for them or skim last gen code for errors on a top of the line experimental project.

So Jessica made her own plans.

For weeks she got to know those that were on the team as best as she could, some from afar and some personally. Then she learned the security rounds, and made notes of where all the cameras were, and what doors were locked and what weren't. With a bit of work, she had let one of the lab techs 'misplace' their badge around her, and had to get a new one, and with that in hand she was able to make a fake access card that would get her access to anything in the building. Yes, it was a LOT of effort just for some 'good time', but as far as Jessica thought about it, the added risk just made the reward more desirable. “The Journey is half the fun” She would quote all the time to Allison. Well, tonight was going to be her most interesting journey yet.

She was unable to stifle giggles when she found herself humming the mission impossible theme as she snuck her way across the campus towards the looming brick building in front of her. Once there, she followed along the edge of the building till she came to the small truck loading dock behind the building. Carefully, she slipped a paw into the small laptop bag she had with her and pulled out the hacked security card and swiped it through the key reader. With silent glee, she jerked the door open once the lock's light turned green, and slipped herself inside.

Once inside, all it took was a bit of sneaking up against one wall to avoid a camera, to slip herself into the tiny security station inside. She quickly skimmed across the keys and then looped the film for the next few hours, so that rather than recording new video it would just copy the current video over and over. That way, noone would notice unless they had to go back and look over the tapes... which, if she did everything right they wouldn't have a reason too. And even if they did she wouldn't show up on any of those tapes.

Now that the security was taken care of Jessica could happily prance her way down the hallways towards the lab she was looking for, 4A. Again her hacked card was swiped and granted her access, letting her slip inside unhindered, into the VR room.

She couldn't help but stare in amazement for a few moments. The room only had a single, major point too it, which was the massive pod looking device in the middle of the room. Thick, heavy industrial sized cables as thick around as salamis were strewn across the floor, all connecting to the pod in some area or another, and most of them either disappeared into the walls, or were connected to the large computer sitting beside the pod. Tentatively she waked towards the computer and began booting it up, idly looking over the pods smooth, leather interior and the strange electrode-looking devices around where the persons head would sit. When the computer turned on she quickly started to skim through some of the files, trying to push aside her amazement at how stupidly complex the thing was, so she could get a gist of how this thing worked. She only had a few hours till morning when people would start coming back in, and she doubted shed be able to sneak in again, so she only had this one shot to give the thing a go. She could read how awesome it was on the internet when they went public with it.

Some of the things she was reading were simply mind boggling. How the pod fed information directly into the brain, making things seem almost exactly as real as they would be if they had happened in real life. How you could even alter perception in the pod, so you could make 5 minutes in the real world seem like an hour in the pod. That would make things much, much more fun. With a last few glances at some of the plans and test runs she felt she had a general idea of how the device worked, so she set her bag down beside the computer, and started to climb herself into the pod. It was both invigorating and terrifying as she clamped her arms and legs down into position where the pod clenched onto them to hold them in place, so she didn't flail around unconsciously, as the design specs had said. A faint yipe of surprise escaped her lips as, once she was settled the electrodes pushed down along her forehead and against the back of her neck. An electric tingle shot down her spine, and her eyes rolled into the back of her head... and she passed out.

“Ooh, what happened...” She groaned softly, rubbing a paw across her forehead as she started to push herself up into a sitting position. Her eyes slowly slid open as she started to wake up... and saw white. White as far as the eye could see in every direction. There was no ground, no sky, no people, buildings or... anything. Just, White. Well, white, and her. She was in an entirely empty space void of everything. For a second she started to panic. Oh god. Was she dead. Had the pod killed her?! Then quickly rationality started to take charge and she remembered what the test runs had said. This was what they called the 'construct'. The empty zone that the VR computer generated before any specifications had been added.

She took a deep breath to calm herself, heart beating wildly in her chest from the sudden brief terror that had overtaken her. “Ok. Calm down now Jessy... you got this. Lets get to work.” She murmured, starting to giggle to herself in anticipation. She raised a paw up and then spoke aloud in the clearest voice she could “Console!” and immediately a small floating holographic keyboard and screen seemed to simply fade into existence beside her, right at the tips of her waiting fingers. “oooh... this Is so awesome!” she giggled aloud to herself, as she started to type along the floating keys. She wish she'd known about this first, she could browse the database in here just as easily as she could outside. She was rather surprised to see some of the details that had been pre-programmed into the system already. They had uploaded everything from three dimensional schematics of most major cities in the world, to the psychological profiles of most of the university students in here! According to the test logs they used them as 'bases' to build models, environments and 'characters' for the environments. That just made it all the easier for her, Now she didn't have to start from scratch.

In here, she could do just about anything she wanted. She could recreate most of the people she knew, or make entirely new people... generate cities, fantasy settings... whatever she wanted. The only question was.

Where should she start?
