"I brought her home a little while ago," your mother responds. "Grandma fell asleep in the garage this time. She must have been exhausted."
"Did she... seem okay? Say anything weird?"
"She was still really sleepy. Nothing too out of the ordinary. I think she was talking to herself about one of her sci-fi novels, but she wasn't really with it. I just put her to bed."
"I see." Your grandmother decided to stay quiet for now. It would look really bad if they found out she had switched with her granddaughter. Anyone would think she was trying to steal a new, youthful body. She was relieved that Erika was safe.
She relished in this dinner with her family. You and Kyle made jokes, and your parents joined in. Everyone talked about their days in earnest. No one was trying to dumb anything down for her, or try to avoid difficult subjects that they assumed she was too old to handle. When she came over for dinner it was always so... proper and up-tight. This was truly real.
Sadly, it came to an end soon enough, and the family dispersed. It was late at night.
