It was your typical, noisy day at the Fairy Tail guild house. Lunch was being served and Natsu Dragneel was busy chowing down on some beef and mashed potatoes. Seated around him were his friends whom he chatted with; usually with a mouthful of grub. All of a sudden…
“Hey, big bro!” came a youthful, loud voice. Natsu turned his head just as a young, black haired boy leaped onto the table he was sitting at. The youngster of Macao , Romeo Conbolt, stood atop the wooden table with his hands on his hips and eyes focused down on Natsu. “Big bro; fight me!” Romeo exclaimed, pointing a finger at the rosy haired Dragon Slayer. The demand shocked almost everyone in the guild; even Natsu just blinked at him. In seconds, however, that blank stare turned into a grin.
“Alright!” Natsu replied, putting on his usual “I’m getting fired up!” look.
“Hey, Natsu-!” Lucy tried to stop him, but Natsu had already gotten out of his seat. A similar grin decorated Romeo’s face as he leaped down from the table and faced the older teen. Natsu just folded his arms over his muscular chest and watched to see what the boy would do.
“I’m gonna give it my all, big bro, so watch out!” Romeo announced before wrapping his right fist in a bright, purple flame. The young Fairy Tail mage cried out as he charged at Natsu; rearing the fist back and plunging it right into Natsu’s stomach. Romeo’s smile twitched as he tried to ignore the pain in his knuckles, but the smile went away completely when he heard the older fire mage laugh above him.
“Awesome! I won’t hold back either!” Natsu replied, unfazed by Romeo’s punch. The smaller male could only watch frighteningly as Natsu wrapped his own fist in a blazing red flame.
A second later, Romeo was sent hurtling into another (thankfully empty) table. The wooden table snapped in half by the impact; leaving Romeo twitching on the broken planks. His cheek was swollen and some blood trickled down his chin. Natsu shouted in victory as he pumped his fist into the air. It was short lived, however, as a certain red haired woman grabbed him by the ear.
“What do you think you’re doing, Natsu?!” Erza asked, tugging on the pink haired teen’s ear. “Romeo’s just a kid; don’t use your full strength!”
“Ow ow ow ow! What’s the problem, Erza?! He was the one who asked for a fight, plus Gildarts never went easy on me when I was his age!”
“Still…” the female knight grumbled, knowing Natsu was right. “Alright then, what about the table?!”
“T-The table?” Natsu looked at the broken piece of furniture before chuckling nervously. “Ah…well…you see…” Before Natsu could come up with an excuse he was already being dragged away by Erza; screaming the entire time.
“Romeo, are you okay?!” came Macao’s voice as the older, blue haired man ran over to his son. Romeo grunted as he sat up and rubbed his puffy, slightly burnt cheek. It was a miracle he hadn’t lost any teeth.
“Yeah, I’m fine, dad.” replied the black haired teen as he wiped away the blood that was coming from his lip. “Big bro is really strong, but one day I’ll definitely pay him back for that. Tenfold!" Macao stared at his son for a moment before smiling at him.
“You know, I don’t appreciate someone slugging my son like that.” Macao stated as he helped Romeo to his feet. “What do you say we pay him back now instead of later?” Macro smirked while Romeo was left staring at his father and wondering what his plan was…

Awhile later, Natsu was alone in the Fairy Tail storage room. And busy stacking what seemed like an endless amount of wooden crates and boxes. The Salamander groaned to himself as he realized how much more he still had to do.
“Ugh, this is going to take me all day!” Natsu complained as he ran his fingers through his hair. “I can’t believe I’m being punished for breaking one little table. It’s not like it’s the first time either…I wonder if I can sneak out the back.” Before Natsu could think about this a little more he heard someone enter the storage room. He turned around to set eyes upon Romeo again, who looked good for someone who had just been sent flying into a table. The swelling in his cheek had also all but vanished; this was most likely Wendy’s doing. What Natsu noticed the most, however, was the strange ball of gray flames in the boy’s palm. “Hey, Romeo, what are you doing here? Don’t tell me you’re angry about the beating I gave you…or do you want a rematch already?” Natsu chuckled and crackled his knuckles; he was always raring to go.
“H-Huh? Oh, no! I came to…reward you for defeating me.” Romeo offered the gray fireball to Natsu. “This is a really special flame I made just for you, big bro! It’s meant for you too eat; it tastes really sweet!” Romeo explained, mentally chuckling in his mind. If his father was right, this flame would drastically weaken Natsu both in strength and magical power once it was consumed. Then he would have a much better chance at defeating him!
“Really? Heh, you didn’t have to do this, Romeo. Beating you wasn’t that much trouble…” replied Natsu as he transferred the gray flame from Romeo’s hand to his own. He was a little suspicious of the flame, but a quick sniff revealed it didn’t stink to high heavens like his Yellow Fire, which was enough for Natsu to assume it was safe. “Oh well, itadakimasu!” Natsu opened his maw and sucked in the gray flame. Romeo watched Natsu’s cheeks fill up before he “chewed” the flame and swallowed. “Hey, what’s the big idea? That didn’t taste sweet at all! If anything it makes me feel kind of funny…”
“Hehe, success!” shouted the younger male before moving into a battle stance. “Now it’s time for some payback, big bro!” Romeo grinned and lit both of fists up with purplish flames. Natsu just raised an eyebrow and watched Romeo punch him in the gut once again…
…which, once again, didn’t make the Dragon Slayer budge an inch. Romeo instantly backed up and rubbed his sore knuckles. “I-I don’t understand! That should of hurt you!”
“Huh?” Natsu looked at Romeo with a confused stare before quickly grinning at him. “Oh I see…that flame was supposed to cripple me somehow, right? Haha, looks like I need to teach you there’s only one kind of flame that matters!” Natsu clenched his own fist, which burst into a raging flame. Romeo’s face went pale as he watched the older Fairy Tail mage rear his fist back again. He squeezed his eyes shut and prepared himself for the pain…
It took several seconds for Romeo to realize something was off. He hadn’t been punched through the door yet and he couldn’t even sense Natsu’s presence in front of him anymore. Sure enough, Romeo opened his eyes to see that Natsu was gone. He glanced around to make sure he wasn’t planning a sneak attack, but the Dragon Slayer was no where to be seen.
“W-What the…”
“…hell happened?!” Natsu exclaimed as he craned his neck all the way back just to look at Romeo’s face far, far above him. Just seconds ago the weaker flame mage had only stood below his chest, but now he towered over him like some kind of young god! Judging by the boy’s titanic, brown boot directly in front of him, Natsu guessed he wasn’t even an inch in comparison to the giant of a kid. He was mere millimeters! “Hey! Hey, Romeo! What the hell did you do to me?!” Natsu screamed up at the junior guild member, but Romeo wasn’t even looking down at him. In fact, the boy seemed just as confused as he was. It would seem Romeo hadn’t planned on this happening, but that didn’t quell Natsu’s rage in the slightest. Needless to say, the mighty Salamander was NOT happy about being shrunken to the size of a mere speck. indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
