Ms. Sherry Mulhunsen was a retired government employee, formerly of some seniority, who had connections with illegal, secret plots by other senior government employees. In this case, a slave purchased from the black market, wiped clean of personal identity and connections and shrunken to the size of a woman's thumb would be of use to her associates. She had purchased him for $5,000 but would be compensated with a higher sum from black-budget money.

If her associates wanted to provide a senior female employee with a cute, cuddly companion that could easily be pocketed and petted, she--the employee in question--would doubtless make a six-figure annual salary--in which case, the little man as an annual bonus offered by her superiors would be purchased for her, for a lower-end five-figure sum.

An office mascot, shared by a group of senior ladies, would go for a higher-end five-figure sum.

And if Ms. Mulhunsen's associates saw her little companion's value as an intelligence asset, she could easily make a six-figure profit off of him.

Ms. Mulhunsen's smartphone vibrated. A code was texted to her phone. Only she and her associates knew the meaning of the code. It meant that her associates wanted her little companion as:
