Blearily Herbert opened his eyes. Well, he'd needed a good nap and he certainly felt rested. Since he'd nearly reached the end of 'Crossing Delta' he'd been doing a lot of late nights. Even out here by himself he tended to get antsy when a book was nearly done. Just have to reach the ending!
Yawning he sat up and pondered. Normally he wore his silk pajama bottoms in bed. Tops too if it was cold enough. Now he was naked. Why was he naked? Maybe he'd really zonked out last night. He chuckled as he remembered a dream of a little baby talking to him with a British accent.
"My, people really do need a lot of rest don't they."
Herbert froze. Yup, 'That' British accent! Slowly he turned his head to the sound of the voice and saw a naked toddler leaning up against his bedside table, maybe three years old at a guess. She turned to him and smiled. The expression looked... mature somehow, as did her posture, despite her young body.
"So, what should I do first Father... oh, wait should I use the colloquialism 'Daddy'? That seems more appropriate doesn't it. Alright. Daddy?"
Herbert blinked at the girl and stared for several seconds.
"Oh please, I checked. You CAN understand me. Can we perhaps skip the awkward bit and just get around to 'Father/Daughter'... er, things?"
"You... were a baby." he managed, feeling his head whirl.
"Mmm? Oh age. Yes terribly inconveniant, but I feel I should at least experience childhood, but the normal process is so tediously slow I sped things up a bit. Mummy was terribly surprised."
"Mummy?" Herbert said.
"Yes, I believe I went from zygote to newborn in about four hours. Oh, don't worry, I made sure it was completely painless for her. She did make a fuss when I came out though. Tisk, she really wasn't appropriate. Thus I came here. Now Daddy, what are we going to do?"
"I... " Herbert's mind spins in dozens of different directions at once, quite a few of them rather scary directions, warranting an 18 label for horrorific or gorey content. Who is this girl?
"Oh yes, my name. I did ponder just picking one at random, but it hardly seemed appropriate. Perhaps you could do the honors?"
He hadn't said that aloud... had he? Shaking his head he actually thought on the girl's name. It seemed the only sane part of this whole mess. A name, a nice normal, ordinary name. Definitely needs to be ordinary!
"Jillian?" He said hesitantly.
"Excellent! Thank you very much Daddy. I suppose you should call me Jill? Yes, that sounds perfect."
