Upon returning to his room, the first thing Cameron did was grab his bag and place it on his bed. He and his family were leaving for their annual road trip in less than three hours so he needed to get started on packing right away. He knew the trip was important to his mom so he didn't want to disappoint her by not being ready when it was time to go.
For as long as Cameron could remember, his family went on a road trip every summer. Years ago, his dad had taken the family on a fun road trip and from then on, it became a family tradition. The Annual Brewer Family Summer Road Trip was something Cam's dad had looked forward to every year, and his mom made sure to keep the tradition going after he passed away as a way to remember him.
This year, Helen, Cameron's mother, had planned a trip to see some cool sights a few states over. It was going to be a bit of a drive so instead of rushing to get there in one day, she planned for them to visit a few points of interest along the way and then stop and spend the night in a hotel about halfway to their destination. They would finish the drive tomorrow, then spend the next few days seeing the sights in the area before the drive back at the end of the week.
"Time to get to work," Cameron said to himself before getting started.
Cam quickly gathered up a few days of clothes and threw them in his bag along with everything else he would need for the trip. Despite having put it off until the last minute, he managed to finish packaging with plenty of time to spare. Leaving his bag on his bed, he put on his black and white skate shoes, then headed downstairs to watch some TV while waiting for everyone else.
A short time later, Cameron's mom asked him and his sisters to help load everything into the car. By the time that was done, it was time to go.
"Let's go, kids," Helen called out as she got in the driver's seat. Cam's older sister Christina hopped in the passenger seat, while Cam climbed in the back with his twin sister. And then they were off!
Unfortunately, what Cameron didn't realize at the moment was that he had forgotten to load his bag into the car. It was still up in his room! It had completely slipped his mind to go and grab it while loading the car. It was going to be a long while yet before he realized, so there wasn't any chance of driving back to get it.
