Cameron made his way to his History class and plopped himself down in his seat. Since no one else was there yet, he rested his head on his desk and zoned out, still feeling tired from waking up so early.
Suddenly, Cameron felt a tap on his shoulder. He looked up to see Jordyn, one of his best friends, sitting down next to him. "Hey sleepyhead," she said. Cameron grunted some sort of greeting in response. "What's up?" Jordyn asked.
"Not much," Cameron told her. "Just tired. I don't think I got enough sleep last night."
"You never do," Jordyn said with a laugh. "But at least it's Friday, right?"
"Yeah," Cameron agreed. "At least it's Friday."
The two friends continued to talk as the rest of their classmates began to filter in through the door. Once the lesson began, though, Cameron started to zone out again. He liked history well enough as a school subject, but Mr. Daniels's lectures were just so boring. He always found it so hard to pay attention in his class. After what seemed like forever, Jordyn tapped Cameron on the arm and passed him a handout, snapping him back to attention. Mr. Daniels was apparently assigning a project.
"You will work in pairs to research a particular topic related to the Byzantine Empire and prepare a report for the rest of the class," the aging History teacher explained. "There is a list of topics on the handout, along with the particulars of this assignment. Now, this time around, I want you to move outside your comfort zones and work with somebody new, so I will be assigning your partners."
Cameron and Jordyn looked at each other with disappointed faces. "I guess we're not working together this time," Cameron said.
"Guess not," she replied.
"Alright, here are the pairs," Mr. Daniels continued before listing off the names. After a while, he finally got to Cameron, announcing that he was going to be paired with ... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
