Chapter #7

"I dare you to stomp it as hard as you can!"

    by: Unknown
“I dare you to stomp it as hard as you can!” The puma cub challenged, sneering at the bug in his friend’s palm.

“That’s it? If I smush the bug right now we won’t be able to play with it anymore though…” Nick said pensively, questioning his friend’s idea.

“Squishing this bug isn’t a big deal, we can easily go outside and look for more in the yard!” His friend replied excitedly, goading him into smushing David like an insect.

Nick’s expression lit up as he realized his friend was correct. They could spend all day catching and playing with bugs if they wanted, there being no shortage of critters in the lawn outside his home.

The colossal bear cub plucked the ant sized person from his palm and felt it wriggle between his thumb and forefinger as he lowered it to the floor between his enormous fuzzy feet.

David was released back onto the wooden floorboards of Nick’s bedroom, gazing at the bear cub’s gargantuan feet boxing him in on either side. Each one was big and wide enough to cover a football field from one end zone to the other and strong enough to crush things that were hundreds of times larger than he was right now.

As Nick stood back to his full height David could see that the hem of his pants just barely reached above the boy’s ankles. The overalls he wore looked almost new and couldn’t have been bought more than half a year ago, and already Nick had basically outgrown them. It was a stark reminder that as huge as the kid seemed, he was far from fully grown and each passing day would only make him more and more of a monster.

Slowly David’s gaze panned up past his ankles, beyond his towering legs and protruding belly until he saw the puzzled expression on his face as he looked down his nose at him. David had never seen a giant from a worm’s eye view like this before, and the sight of Nick towering over him made his heart race and froze him in place until the giant cub piped up.

“Uhm… Is this bug even gonna try to run or move at all? It’s boring to stomp on a bug that isn’t running…” Nick’s voice boomed dejectedly as his right foot peeled off the ground and swung overhead, casting David in its looming shadow. The sight of their colossal grey sole filled his field of vision and darkened his world, the broad underside of the bear cub’s smooth foot flexing hypnotically as his huge burly digits idly wriggled.

Suddenly David’s body remembered it had to flee as fight or flight gripped his senses. Fighting was obviously out of the question as he couldn’t possibly stop the boy’s foot from bearing down on him with his overwhelming size and weight. That left only other option which was equally doomed.

“Oh! Look Nick! I think you managed to get its attention by scaring it, and it’s trying to crawl away!” The towering puma cub exclaimed as he saw the bug trying to scurry out from beneath his friend’s foot finally after a little provoking, though the bug wasn't nearly fast enough to make it out from the looming shadow of the bear's foot.

Nick's belly shook as he merely chuckled. He raised his foot higher, winding his leg up for a huge stomp. He tracked the insect’s movement easily with his impending foot, letting it flee for a few moments longer.
