Chapter #3

You gaze into your mother's eyes and someho...

You look into Jackie's beautiful dark brown eyes and something feels a little off. Then you gaze into your mother's sea green eyes and sense something, you're not sure what. She meets your stare and you can see fear, confusion and maybe a hint of panic - but you also see a deep, pure love for you, one that's NOT the love of a mother for her child.

"Jackie?" you ask hesitantly. "Is it really you?"

Her lip quivers and she throws herself into your arms. "Oh Gerry, what are we going to do?" She breaks down in sobs as you hold her.

You feel very strange holding your mother's body this way. You see your fiance's face watching you with sympathy. You start to speak but she shakes her head, indicating that you should attend to the woman in your arms.

After a few minutes she regains control of herself. Her face is tear-streaked but she seems to be calmer now. She leans into you for comfort and you feel the press of her rather large breasts against you. You have trouble thinking of her as Jacqueline, your bride-to-be, but you try to force your mind around the idea.

"Is that better, dear?" Jackie asks - that is, to say, your mom in Jackie's body. You don't know if you can keep this straight in your head.

Jackie (in your mom's body) looks at her thoughtfully. "Yes, I'm okay. It's weird. I'm not that upset at being you. You'd think I should be freaking out. But I actually feel comfortable, like this is my body. My panic attack was because of the wedding. This was supposed to be our special day but now it's ruined. How can we get married now?"

Your mom responds "I wondered why I felt so calm about the whole thing. It must be part of this transformation I guess. But ... how could this even happen?"

A thought occurs to you. "The orb!" you say. "It must have been that gift."

Jackie looks at you and nods in agreement. Your mom looks confused so you explain about the mysterious gift and note. Jackie looks at the floor and says "I don't know if it's magic or aliens or what, but how can we change back? The orb completely shattered."

Your mom senses your and Jackie's impending panic and so takes control. "Don't worry kids. However it happened, if something could change us once then we'll find something to change us back."

Her calm, commanding tone and manner reassure you. That more than anything helps convince you that this is your mom and not your fiancee. Your mom always had that ability to take charge of a situation. Her level-head and rational approach to crisis is one of her best qualities.

She continues, "there's no reason to cancel the wedding. I can fill in for you during the ceremony. No one needs to know. We'd probably end up in front of a psychologist. Even if they believed us, we might be locked up somewhere for study. No, we can just pretend to be each other for now and get through the next few days. Then we'll figure out how to proceed. Agreed?"

You and Jackie look one another in the eyes. "Yes," you say, "that sounds like the best plan."

Your mom says "We don't have much time before the wedding so we need to get moving. You can help me, Jackie. We're close, so no one will think it strange that the mother-in-law is helping the bride today. I know the ceremony, so I can fake my way through it. And your role is pretty simple."

You have another thought. "What about the honeymoon? We're supposed to fly out first thing in the morning for two weeks..."

Your mom thinks for a moment, then says:
