Chapter #4

A Female Ferret

Already as you look into the mirror, you feel different. It is as if finally seeing yourself gives the boost needed, the last tip into that darkness writhing inside. Memories - what were memories? They faded. They became fuzzy, unclear. Insignificant. You take in your new features with relish. Creamy white with brown markings scattered over your sinuous, snake-like body. You especially enjoy how sharp your claws and teeth are. You hand the mirror back to Sister Buttercup.

I could snap her neck. Look at how small she is. How weak. You toy with the idea as Sister Buttercup puts the mirror away, but decide against it. There is no benefit in killing the frail mouse. At least not yet.

You don't know who your allies are yet, who you can join up with. Alone in an abbey surrounded by nauseatingly sweet creatures, you may as well be a prisoner. You just need to bide your time, see if the soft, fat pacifists in this place would be willing to house you, or force you on your way through Mossflower, once the injuries fully healed. Maybe then you could find other ferrets. Other vermin.

You smile disarmingly at Sister Buttercup, smoothing your features. "Thank you once again for taking me in, Sister. I will always be grateful for this."

Sister Buttercup blinks, then nods, looking strangely nervous. "Hum, yes. You're welcome."

Feeling a slight brush of cold, you pull the blankets more about yourself. Sister Buttercup sees the gesture, and very hesitantly places her paw over your forehead, testing the temperature. "You might be coming down with a fever. Small wonder, if you were in that water for a while. Winter waters are a terrible thing."

You close your eyes, giving a large, theatrical sigh. "Eh, I'm sure I'll be fine." The cold would prolong your stay in the abbey for sure. Whether this is a good or bad thing, you don't know.

There was one thing you did know. Sooner or later, this thirst for blood needs to be quenched. A sinister smile flutters over your lips.

They won't know what's coming for them at all, these fools.
