This choice: Katie gets arrested, accused of stealing the statue! • Go Back... Katie sat rather happily in the breakroom, content that she was finally getting rid of that damned statue. She was not, however, content with how her hands were resting. Normally, they'd be clasped on her lap, but she kept finding them cupping the tiny bit of flab on her stomach. She glanced around, checking the time and staring a little longer than she'd like at the vending machine, several bags of chips and candy were precariously hung inside, just a little jolt would knock them down... maybe she could do that real quick. She didn't get that chance as a stern looking Mr. Evansborough reentered the room, without the statue.
"Ms. Katie, I don't know who you think we are, but we are not the kind to take stolen artifacts!." he spouted.
"What? No! I bought it from a shop who bought it from the original owner, I have legal possession of it!" Katie shot back, worriedly
"Nonsense, the police are here to take you away, we will be returning this stolen artifact in the mean time, and looking for your accomplice." he continued his tirade, nostrils flaring the whole time.
"You can't do this, you can't prove I--" Katie cut herself off as a police officer entered the room.
"Let's go, ma'am." he said sternly. Katie quietly got up and went with him. He put her in the back of his patrol car and drove her to the precinct station. They took her into a small interrogation room. She sat there quietly, trying to hold back tears.
Her stomach growled
She tried to ignore it, there were other more important things going on right now than needing a snack. They were holding her purse, so she couldn't even check the time or rifle through her purse for any snacks, because she really was starting to get hungry again.
Her stomach growled
Katie placed her hands on her belly, still uncomfortable at how the soft layer of flab had formed only this afternoon, and hoping that a quick diet will it go away. No wait, had it crept up? Or formed suddenly. She still didn't know what was worse. She flicked her hands off her belly again, why did they keep going there? God, her clothes were uncomfortable now. She would've noticed, right?
Her stomach growled
She couldn't stand it, she looked around the room, stared at the camera, then got up and looked around. She looked for something- ANYTHING- edible. She was getting so hungry it hurt at this point. She winced and held her stomach. Suddenly the door opened behind her and she spun around. The receptionist was there, holding a back Mr. Spiffy's
"What?"
"Thought you might be hungry, so I got you something."
"What?-- Uh, th-thank you." Katie replied, going and getting the bag from her. The receptionist smiled and quietly closed the door. Katie sat down and tore open the bag. Two Triple Deluxes and a Large Fry, no drink, but that didn't bother her. She tore open the first burger, taking a bite of it and following it immediately with fries. Damn, she was hungry. Burger. Fries. Burger. Fries. Burger. Fires. Bite after bite of salty savory calorie-laden food passed her lips and into her gnawing stomach. She didn't even think to try and stop herself until she was finally done, placing her dirty napkins in the bag along with the rest of her trash. "Why did that feel so good?" she thought to herself as she recollected she had done. She looked down and was relieved she hadn't spilt anything on her clothes, but she could see her stomach starting to bulge out more. She whined, and then:
Her stomach growled
"How could I still be hungry? That was enough food for two of me!" she thought as the door behind her opened again. It was the officer that brought her in! She silently looked at him, waiting for him to say anything, but instead, he just handed her another bag of food and a milkshake.
"What? Why?"
"You looked hungry" he replied, his eyes a little glazed over.
"When is someone going to be here to question me... or something?"
"They'll be here in a little bit." he replied before leaving. Katie didn't consciously think about open the food this time, it was Steak 'n Shake: greasy and fried, with the large milkshake. She moaned a little loudly as she dug into a one of the three patty melts, licking her fingers after each one. She took the top off the milkshake and turned it up, greedily gulping down the thick creamy liquid.
:Ah hell..." she laid back in her seat, wiping her hands with another napkin. She looked down dejectedly at her now even more swollen stomach. "Why... Why? Why!?" she said to herself. She started sobbing. Today had been rough, and now she was stuffing herself silly in a police station.
"Katie?" a feminine voice said from behind as the door entered again, she braced herself to try and resist more food.
"That's me." she replied weakly
"I'm detective-- what the hell? Where'd these come from?" the detective started then stopped upon seeing the empty food containers.
"The receptionist and the officer that brought me in gave them to me." Katie replied. The detective looked at them, then at the stuffed Katie, Katie could see her eyes go down to her stomach and her hands involuntarily held it.
"Are you still hungry?" the detective asked
Katie opened her mouth to say no, but her voice said "Yes."
"We'll get you a pizza once I get done questioning you." the detective responded. Katie nodded in resignation. She was starting to just accept it. "Anyway, I'm Detective Melanie Jaeger, I've been assigned to your case. So let's get started." Where did you get the statue from?"
"I bought it at an antique store on the square, I don't remember the name." Katie responded
"I know the one, never seen it in there before. Who was attending the store that day?"
"Some old woman, I didn't ask her name, and she didn't have a nametag."
"Mhm... and they said that a member of the Luckmann family sold it to them?"
"Yes."
"Is there anything else you'd like to add?"
"N--I'd like a large meat-lovers pizza." She spoke without her own words.
"Alright, we'll be holding you here tonight, so I'll bring the pizza to your cell." Melanie responded, typing away at her computer.
"I don't get to go home on house arrest or something? Or get one of those anklets?"
"No, you're staying here for now."
"But I have work tomorrow!"
"If these charges prove false then don't worry, you'll have a case against the museum, until then, and officer will see you to your cell." Melanie exited and another officer came in, who escorted her to a cell. Katie sat curled on the bed, wondering what to do, or who to call... indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
