Well, maybe since Starfire and Robin are a couple, they both have to go through some special Tamarainian rituals, but don't realize that they will gain weight as a result.

OR

Perhaps a spell of Raven's goes wrong. Her spell then slowly causes the two love birds to gain weight without realizing it.
