"Yay, I win!" Melody said giggling. "What should I swap, what should I swap...." she said, quickly looking around the group. It was still weird to have a boyfriend that she didn't even know, and Greg was sixteen with a car and everything. Part of her thought it was cool to have such a mature boyfriend but the bigger part of her was intimidated by it all.
"Gotta choose quickly squirt," her older brother Jeremy teased, reaching over to mess up her hair. "Remember the timer!"
"You brat," she said, sticking her tongue out at him. "Maybe I should take your height so you can be the short one, how would that feel?"
"Hey now," Josie said, trying to keep things from blowing up. "This should be fun, keep it friendly."
"I know! There's just a lot I could do and I don't want to waste it. I barely ever win when I play with so many people that are older than me. Wait... that's it," she said, her eyes lighting up as the idea struck her.
"Oh no," Jeremy said, shrinking back from his little sister. "What are you going to do now?"
"I want to swap ages with Josie!" Melody cried out.
All around the table people gasped, then watched Melody and Josie for changes. A minute went by, then another, and nothing seemed to change about either girl.
"That's weird," Josie said. "Maybe it didn't happen in the time limit, and some other random swap happened?"
"I dunno," Michael said, scratching his head. "Josie, check your driver's license, see what it says."
"Good idea," Josie muttered as she started digging in her purse. "Wait a minute... half my stuff is missing. My car keys are gone... my license... oh my god, I've got a school ID for Thurston Middle School! It says I'm in Eighth Grade!"
"Really," Melody said, a little stunned. Looking in her own purse, she found a set of car keys along with a driver's license that said she was seventeen. It had even moved her birthday from May 21st to September 4th. "Hey Josie, what month were you born in?"
"September, I'm a Virgo," Josie said without thinking much about it.
"Not any more you're not. It looks like you get to be a Gemini now. This is so weird. I thought I'd grow up and she'd get younger, but it just changed everything else about our ages."
"Well, I don't think I mind too much," Josie said, looking to Michael with a teasing wink. "Can you handle dating a younger woman?"
"I think I can manage that, as long as you can handle dating a guy who wears your skirts!"
"Okay then," Anna butted in. "Now that that's settled, will someone deal the next hand? Let's get on with this, I want to win the next one..."
