Chapter #92

Don’t Underestimate your Elders

    by: Dragonboy Author IconMail Icon
As you slept, you had a weird feeling all of the sudden. You slowly opened your eyes and when you didn’t see your sleeping sister, you quickly got up in alarm. “Kate!” you cried out as you started to look around in a desperate search for her. Not only did you not find her, you realized that you can’t even find Rachael, Neku or others. You are all alone.

‘Oh no… Is that Hydregion attacking me again?!’ you thought worriedly, but the longer you look around, the more you start to realize there isn’t a malicious aura surrounding him. Though you can feel the aura was tranquil, there was also a sense of pride within.

“... Who’s there?!” you called out to whoever’s conjuring this scenery. “Show yourself!” You curled your paws into a fist in case things got hostile, but mostly in order to keep your hands from shaking. Despite your words, you don’t see anyone appearing from the void until you notice a figure walking towards you. You see the figure walking out of the void and your face gives a shocked expression as you recognize the blind soothsayer you just talked to.

“I wanted this to be somewhere private, in order to not disturbed the others.” Felicity stated in a calm tone, though it doesn’t do so much to rid you of your confusion and skepticism.

“What for? Why bring me here when you could’ve just talked to me earlier?” You asked, looking confused.

“Well talking isn’t the only thing we’re doing.” She tells you, making you a little nervous. “It’s quite clear you’re not quite used to meeting one whose age goes further than the usual death expectancy.” Felicity spoke making you confused. “I mean, that must be the case considering your earlier comment.”

“Huh? You mean about your sight? I didn’t say anything about you being old.” You pointed out.

“Yes, but you covered it up with my lack of sight. I can tell.” she stated as she was walking to the side, keeping her head pointed towards you.

You gulped a bit as she wasn’t wrong there. “We… It’s been a struggle just to get here, we had many close calls just trying to find a survivor camp, and I wasn’t alone the whole time…” you explained to her, hoping to clear this up.

Felicity was quiet for some time which was making you nervous before a smile formed on her face. “The situation is dangerous and traveling alone is even more so. So I do understand what you’re saving.”

You let out a sigh in relief before feeling a growing heat in front of you before noticing some orbs of flame appearing.

“I’ll just do some… convincing.” she stated as she launched the flames at you, which you managed to dodge them.

“H-Hey! What’s the matter now?! I explained my reasoning. Why do you still want to fight?”

“Well I need to convince you that I’m not helpless during the battle. Besides, considering how the world is, wouldn’t you believe it would be best for me to accompany you since we both want to go back to the camp?”

You blink a few times in response to that as you sheepishly respond, “I… was thinking about that.”

“So we have an impasse. You don’t want me to go it alone, and I want to make my way on my own. So we should settle this the old fashion way.” Felicity stated. “You win, I’ll go with you.”

You sweated as the aspect of having to fight an blind elderly leaves you a bad feeling, though not the fact that she’s weak, in fact seeing her stance and dodging her attacks make you believe she’s strong. “I really rather not fight unless I don’t have any other options-”

“Well then, I hope you don’t mind dodging throughout the night.” she stated as she started blasting flames at you. You dodged them, though you can feel the heat from it as you skid on the floor. You look to see her walking slowly towards you still. You adjust your footing as you gather your electricity.

“Alright, you want a battle, I’ll give it to you.” you stated, taking a stance. “Know that I won’t hold back!” you added as Felicity smiles at your response.

“Good, there will be times that you have to fight. You should be ready for it to happen, especially if they’re non-infected.” Felicity tells you.

You recall the time you tried to talk the Scrafty against fighting and failed, and the Aggron who was attacking Felix and who wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for you and Vargus. You are in some relief that your life won’t be in danger this time as you started to charge towards Felicity, paws surging with electricity as you leaped up, preparing to swing.

Before you can connect however, Felicity sidestepped out of the way of your swing as you landed on the ground.

“Too obvious.” Felicity said, teasing you by rubbing one of her tails against your face. You moved forward with your Thunder punch, but she moved out of the way once more. Making sure to fire some ember at your face. You winced at the small flames pattering against your face as you try and get the flames off.

You take a deep breath as you leapt back and use thundershock at her. Felicity winced from the attack, her body shaking from the electric current running through her with her stepping back.

“Hm, not bad. You’re pretty strong.” Felicity stated as she summons orbs of flames and started to send them to you. You tried to dodge them, but you were midair as one of them struck your arm, leaving a searing burn on it. You land on the ground as you held your burned arm. “Don’t get overconfident though…”

You gritted your teeth as you try to fight through the pain as you unleash your thunderbolt towards her, though she just dodge the attack. ‘She’s a formidable opponent even though she’s blind… That’s amazing!’ You thought as you saw her smile, ‘I guess she can sense my expression.’

“I’ve made sure to focus my other senses so that even those who I can’t see won’t have an easy target.” Felicity stated, her tails flowing around behind her, radiating their power. You shudder from feeling their power from where you are, but you refuse to back down now. You started to run towards her, wincing a bit from your burn as you make it look like you were about to attack her, but then you vanish from her view.

Felicity twitched a bit before she heard something behind her as a vision of a Raichu appeared behind her as she turned and saw with her mind’s eye you with a ball of electric energy in your paw before you use your tail to launch it towards her.

You hear her cry out in pain as you landed on the ground. You panted a bit as you smile from the impact. “Had enough?” you called out to her, before you saw a wall of flame encircling around you, You try to leave, but you were caught in the middle of it, the heat surging around you, making it hard to breathe.

“You are strong, and well taught as well.” Felicity stated as through the spinning flames, you saw what looks like a orb forming and growing bigger. “Never expected that from your age, however it’s not enough.” she stated as you tried to brace yourself from the attack as you saw the inferno ball being launched towards you. You felt the heat growing even stronger as your vision went white.

You opened your eyes to see that you were back in the cave in your bag. You were panting a bit as you take a sigh of relief. “Phew, it was just a dream.” you stated, rubbing your head, just to realize that you were sweating pretty hard, and felt quite hot, in fact, more than even you expected. You even felt a slight tingle on your arm, the same where your arm was burned when you battled Felicity in your dream.

‘Not quite.’ You jolted from your thought as you look and saw the Ninetales was behind you with a smile on your face. ‘I’m sorry, I went a little too hard on that last attack and knocked you out. I revived you so you wouldn’t feel battered.’

You blinked at the fact that it was real.

‘Since I’m the victor in our little battle, I’ll be making my way to the camp on my own.’ she thought, making you look down as you accepted it. ‘But you do have the potential to grow even stronger than you are now.’

You smile at that, “Well, be careful on your way.”

She nodded as you went back to bed as she headed back.

*The Next Morning*

Everyone was packed and ready to go as you see Nina arriving as well, carrying her own bag.

“Oh, are you and your grandmother coming with us?” Vargus asked.

“I’m coming with you, my grandmother will make her own way.”

“Huh? Isn’t that rather dangerous?” Rachael asked.

“It was her decision. She’s capable.” Nina stated calmly.

“I don’t know I-”

“She’s a skilled soothsayer. If she’s the one who agreed to go alone, then we can’t change her mind.”

“She had those who tried and she proved them wrong.” The Vulpix stated, glancing towards you who quickly looked away in response.

“Huh? What do you mean?” Kate asked.

“I-It’s nothing. Well if we’re all ready to go, then let’s get going.” You stated quickly just as Felicity walked onward to them.

“Well I see you all are ready to go.” The Ninetales stated. “I’ll take some time to get things ready, so you all go on ahead. The times will be tough, but remember, you’re not alone. It’s not weakness to lean on others when you need it.”

You nodded your head as you and the others headed out of the cave to continue your journey.

((Nina has joined your group))
