Dan rolled over, waking up from a deep and restful sleep. He stretched, yawned and sat up. He performed his normal morning rituals and was brushing his teeth when it hit him. He didn't remember coming home last night. That thought frightened him. He ran the events in his head several times but each time it ended with him being called on stage.
Dan finished in the bathroom, got dressed and went looking for Scott. Scott was in the kitchen eating breakfast when Dan stepped in.
“Hey, uh...odd question. What happened last night?”
Scott didn't look at Dan, “A bunch of things.”
Scott's tone gave Dan pause. It was cold and had an edge to it.
“Are you ok?” Dan said, finding his voice.
He wasn't ok, that was obvious by the look on Scott's face when he met Dan's eyes.
Dan sputtered, “I...uh, I don't know why you are upset but I hope I'd didn't cause it. I don't really remember much of last night.”
Scott studied Dan and then laughed a bitter laugh. Dan didn't know how to respond to that. He was really feeling uncomfortable standing in the kitchen during the silence after that laugh.
Scott took a breath, “Hey Danny, Don't worry about last night. Okay, Danny?”
Dan didn't know why he would be worrying about last night. At that moment, he was more concerned with how Scott was acting. Without another word, Scott finished his breakfast and put his dishes in the sink. He cleaned his face and went to leave for work. Just before he left he paused thinking about something. Coming to some kind of conclusion he turned back to Dan and said...
