"WHAT?!!?" Twilight was shocked by this revelation.
"I mean, I loved it at first, being in charge of a country, having control over the sun, being waited on, all that power was nice for a while. But over the years, especially during Luna's absence, I've grown to hate it with a passion, but I've kept my feelings inside me. I hate how everyone kisses up to me, I hate those mindless drones devoid of emotion known as 'guards', but most of all, I HATE how my reputation of being this powerful being that vanquished evil has affected everyone. Every time I want to do a social visit, I'm expected to allow EVERYONE to wait on me. Remember that party at the Cakes when I visited once?"
"Yes, you tricked the Cakes into overfilling your cup when they kept giving you refills."
"Exactly. All the ponies tend to be so overworked about me, thinking I should be treated like a god, but inside, I want to be looked at as being a normal, fun-loving pony who feels that everyone around me should just loosen up. That's why I enjoyed the Grand Galloping Gala that you and your friends attended, because they actually brought some life to that dull affair. But even after I've shown this aspect of me, you still see me as the same old 'Ms. High & Mighty Princess Celestia' that has ruled since before Discord's reign of terror* and my sister becoming Nightmare Moon and all that."
"I guess that's true."
"However, I had not let this hatred consume me until one faithful day, when you were late with the friendship report. I was upset at you, but I was mostly upset with myself. While your obsessive compulsive behavior and your use of that spell were to blame, what was also a factor was the fear that seems to surround me. The fear that, if you didn't do something or did something incorrectly, that you would be punished immensely for it. But what you don't understand is that I'm not like that most of the time. When I heard that you were worried about being sent back to Magic Kindergarden for not turning the report in, that was the straw that broke this pony's back. I had not been showing it, but I have grown to hate myself IMMENSELY for causing others to worry about the 'wrath' that I would bring down upon them. My reputation had gotten too good for me. But I don't have to worry about it now. I'm safe inside you, without any royal duties or meetings or raising the sun or anything to deal with."
As Twilight was telepathically listening to her teacher in the womb, she was thinking about how to respond to this...
*I personally hate how people automatically assume that Discord was the former ruler of Equestria, since the writers had left it incredibly vague as to what they meant when he "ruled Equestria in a state of unrest and unhappiness", and he just comes off more as an incredibly powerful trickster and troublemaker rather than a vengeful former ruler. Plus, I can't picture Celestia and Luna as being "usurpers" at all, so the idea of him being the legitimate former ruler of Equestria is bullcrap. Personally, I think Celestia and Luna had always ruled, but they weren't able to stop Discord when he invaded Equestria until they had the Elements Of Harmony. Wanna argue with me about it?
