She watched the little leaf insect crawl around in the terrarium.
"Are you still looking at that thing?" said Carina, her roommate. "What's so fascinating about a bug? Gives me the creeps."
"You won't be thinking that when you're a bug," Mandy muttered.
"What?"
"Nothing. I'm going for a walk."
"Whatever."
Mandy went down to floor one of the dorm, and then outside. She pulled a test tube out from her coat. A professor in one of her classes was studying a newly-discovered insect from New Guinea that could swell itself up many times its normal size. She extracted some of the chemical that caused this from the insect and modified it chemically so that it would affect humans. She was fulfilling lifelong dream of making the entire world bug-sized. To her anyway. This dosage would make her roughly 200 feet tall, if her calculations were correct.
She took the top off the tube and chugged the whole thing like a freshman trying whiskey.
Her stomach began to rumble loudly.
