Ranma Satome’s walk home from school seemed surprisingly relaxing. Akane had already headed back to the dojo, walking alongside some other girls, so he didn’t have to bicker with her. The sun was out, and not a puddle was to be seen. The curse wasn’t likely to affect him between now and the time he got home for dinner. Which would be tolerable as long as Akane wasn’t cooking.
On his was down the street, an old beggar caught his eye. “Spare some yen fine sir?”
“Sorry pops, I don’t have any spare coins,” Ranma scoffed.
“Are you sure, I’ve got some items I could trade you for it.”
Ranma looked at a towel that was opened in front of the old man. Various knickknacks, stones, and garbage were laid in front of him.
“I don’t want to trade anything for that dead rat.”
“It’s not a rat, it’s a hamster, and it keeps cats away.”
“I think it’ll keep everything away,” Ranma said as he was about to turn and leave, but suddenly, his eye caught a glimpse of some Chinese characters carved into one of the stones. “What’s that one?”
The beggar picked up the stone and examined it. “This stone was designed to get rid of curses.”
Ranma stopped and made full eye contact with the man. “What type of curses.”
“Don’t know, the characters explaining that have been carved off.”
“So it’ll cure a curse.”
“Apparently but…”
“How much?
“Well, there is…”
“How much…?”
“100 000 yen, and I’ll throw in this hamster.”
“Ew. I’m not touching that!”
“50 000 yen, but you have to take the hamster.”
“Done!” said Ranma, as he took out his money, and flung it in front of the old man, using the yen-jitsu martial art technique. The old man held out the stone, and the martial artist snapped it up.
“Young sir, you should know the stone doesn’t…” the old beggar stopped himself, and looked up to see that Ranma was already three roofs away from him. The old man looked down, and grabbed the money, only noticing now that the deceased hamster was right beside him. He sighed with disappointment. He was never going to get rid of this thing.

“Finally!” Ranma yelled as his feet landed on the street again. He was about to be cured from his curse. Just then he felt a cold splash hit the back of his head, and the world around him seemed bigger. Ranma turned around to spot a nearly blind woman with a ladle waving at her.
Ranma looked down at her own chest to see that her breasts were nearly popping out of her top, and saw that her pigtail was red. She didn’t even bother pretending to be shocked. This was just to common in her life.
“I wasted 50 000 yen on you!” she said to the rock as she tossed it out of view.
“Ow!” said a familiar voice in the distance.
Ranma looked over and saw that her rival Ryoga was rubbing the back of his head. On the ground, the rock was split open, and seemingly broken. Ryoga turned around to see the red-headed Ranma looking bewildered.
“You!” he said, as he picked the rock up and threw it right back at her.
The rock hit Ranma right in the forehead and she fell over backwards, surprised at Ryoga’s strength.
“Ranma, stop being a coward, change back, and give me a proper fight!” he shouted, as he walked over towards her. But as he leaned over to help her up, but him and her felt the cold water from the ladle which could never seem to hit the plants it was aiming for.
