This choice: Suddenly she was aware of a presence behind her • Go Back...Chapter #10Suddenly she was aware of a presence behind her by: Me   As she sobbed and sobbed, floods of tears literally flooded patches of the city, as huge drops rained down, smashing whatever they hit, or sometimes putting out one of the many fires around the already badly damaged city she gradually was becoming aware of a presence behind her. She was so used to being alone or when she was with people, those that she actually liked or at least tolerated, those who weren't casually and summarily squashed in passing, were only about half in inch high to her, the size of bugs, and bugs were for the most part....bugs........so she never felt a presence....but this was distinct......distracted, she stopped her crying. Barely had she done that than she felt something around her shoulders, it felt strangely comforting. "What the $%^%?", she said in a sort of sotto voce exclamation. She turned round and got the shock of her life.......it was another girl, at 23 a little older than herself, but she was huge like Vera herself! Long straight dark brown locks flowed down her leather clad shoulders of what looked like a perfect leather motorcycle jacket and it was an arm clad in another part of that same garment that rested comfortingly round her shoulders, with a leather gloved hand squeezing her arm......."are you OK? Hiiiii I'm Anna, by the way...". Anna's face beamed, an extraordinarily friendly open smile, the type that make the other person immediately feel top of the world. "Er...hi, I'm Vera.....", she was a little uncertain, not knowing what to make of this newcomer. She had a lifetime being accustomed to being the only one at her size and most of the time was very happy about her superior position in society, but now at a stroke........she looked around at the other girl, Anna. Anna was dressed neck to toe in shiny black leather, big knee length flattish boots worn over tight shiny leather trousers, matched by her motorcycle type jacket and the gloves, her long dark brown hair framing her gorgeous beaming face and flowing down to 3/4 way down her back. She was warm and open and friendly to Vera. Yet look down and those leather clad legs were kneeling down in death and destruction, which increased as she moved her legs to stay comfortable (she even picked up and threw away several tall buildings which could have very uncomfortable if she had accidentally knelt on them). Massive footprints seemed to go on for miles, confident footprints, seeming complete casual indifference to where her boot clad feet had landed, and in the distance a huge motorcycle with a helmet on the handlebars, with its front wheel wedged against a dam which looked ready to collapse at any moment under the strain. Vera had all sorts of mixed feelings brought up by the sudden presence of Anna. She could be the friend that she had always wanted yet she was cross that nobody had mentioned that Anna existed. She saw the carnage caused by Anna's approach and in one sense was almost repelled by it, there was humanity and kindness in her nature though it didn't always show itself, buried by years of being a brat, and yet there was something about Anna's awesome power and seeming indifference to her surroundings that actually aroused Vera a bit, particularly as it reminded herself of her own attitude over the years towards her tiny surroundings, what she had done to countless towns and cities and people, whether obliviously or to the other extreme the deliberate wholesale destruction she had caused to the region all around her that very day and how that had also aroused her for a while. Then Anna spoke....."let me explain........".   indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
