Feeling weak from hunger, you find yourself on the city outskirts, a forest stretching out ahead of you. You're not sure if going in is a good idea in your condition, your starving. But maybe you'll get lucky and find something, anything of use, and if worse comes to worst, your sure tree bark is edible... if you soften it enough with water and pounding.
Fortunately, it seems, the goddess of luck decided to smile on you, as you see along the edge a sea of wild blackberry bushes running the edge of town, which you all but leap upon to satiate your hunger, and grabbing handful after handful until finally, your head starts clearing again. Licking your lips, and picking thorns out of your palm and arms, you finally take a seat and ponder on your situation, taking in your surroundings more thoroughly. You're not near any proper roads, even so, some dirt paths seem to lead deeper into the forest. What lies beyond the city is a mystery to you. There is probably not a job waiting for you at the end of that road, or food. Then again if there are blackberry bushes, there may be more food a homeless fox like you can take advantage of.
Then you look at the nearby buildings. They look like storage units that are gated off. Even if you could climb the gate, you wouldn't find anything edible. But what does catch your eye is a machine on the front corner. Curious, you approach to look at it. It looks out of place, a person-sized cylinder of brass with steps leading into it. At the bottom of the steps is a brass panel with a few dials and words on it. As you approach closer, you see people passing by on the street and stop, considering your options. You could go into the forest, or check this out and give the city another try...
