Hermione had overheard the details of Harry's party, when she was visiting 'The Burrows'. She had always enjoyed a good friendship with the boys. But. But she was always a little separate, a little apart. Ron told her half-jokingly that it was because she was such a buzz kill. Always ready to pour a dampener on proceedings.
But she knew it was (at least partially) because she was a girl. There would be an rising voice, as Ron or Harry started going off on a tangent. Then with a sly glance over to Hermione, the conversation would tail off, with the boys descending into mock coughs and changing the subject entirely.
She felt especially slighted when she was 'sent' to the Kitchen with Ginny, and Molly while the boys made their plans. Hermione for all her gifts was a hazard in the kitchen, even the simplest of task seemed to end in chaos. Ginny and Molly assured her it was because she wasn't used to a magical kitchen, Hermione knew when she was being put aside. She fancied clearing her head, and a dose of healthy fresh air looked like the best option.
Mr. Weasley was in the garden, and working to clear out the gnomes again. With a sigh, she headed into the living room. She liked Mr. Weasley, but my God, when he started asking questions about muggle ways, he never stopped.
Her nature drew her to the bookshelf, but it was one thing that caught her attention.
