You were only 12 when it happened. When you became a slave. You didn't want it to happen, but it did. The whole world changed as only those who were 17 and 18 got to be large and in charge. Everything changed, as the government constantly reshaped, every two years a new leader in power. The old one, disposed. . .or worse. It was a scary place to be. What was worse, was that the new SIZE government determined who would come into power. They would feed them the immunity, although it was only temporary. When that person hit 17 years old, boom!! They would grow to normal size again. Once they aged to 19. . .they would shrink down again too.
You were a lucky one. A lot of the world was purged, the giants destroying and killing so many shrinkees. At a half inch tall, it was hard for anyone to even notice them, or not think they were bugs. True terror was everywhere. People believed that the illness, while not shrinking the giants, made them go rabid. Crushing, eating, stomping or worse. It was everywhere, like a plague!! Everyone who wasn't a leader, that is. Leaders could think, could act, were basically normal. You were so lucky. . even as a slave, you were so lucky. You lived in one of the SIZE homes. Large normal houses that hadn't been destroyed when the chaos ensued. Your sister, Stacy, was one of these leaders. You had actually been with her when she grew. You were 15 then. Your family, all huddled together in a box outside. A giant man came to your box and told her to come outside. She wouldn't do it. She thought he was a rabid giant. Looking back, you wish she had. The giant was Michael Cruseau, a leader himself. He had recognized that she would become one too, and wanted her to not grow with her family nearby. Instead she killed your brother, mother, and father. Only you were left alive, and Stacy promised with tears in her eyes, that she would take care of you.
You had heard worse stories. . .of families whose child became a rabid at 17. . . and killed everyone. You sat there, in the palm of your giant sister's hand, waiting to see what she and Michael would do. That is when you were taken to the house. And given your role.
