The three guys made a run for the door of the manor while the rain continued to pour down. The front door seemed much farther away then they thought, by the time they reached the front door they looked like drowned rats. Sam pounded on the door with a fist but didn’t get a response.
Zack shifted his weight and yelled over the storm, “Maybe they’re asleep?”
Sam was about to respond when the door slowly creaked open. They gave each other a cautious look before Sam stepped into the darkened entrance followed by the other two. The room was pitch black, no sign of light anywhere.
Zack whispered, “I don’t think we should be in –“
“Hello?!” Sam shouted, ignoring Zack’s concern. There was no response other then a slight echo. Though their phones seemed useless for contacting anyone, they still made semi-useful flashlights. They searched the area with their cells’ tiny lights revealing dust covered sheets draped over furniture.
“Looks like no one has been here for some time,” Alex mused.
“Fantastic, we were better off in the car, I’m freezing now.” Sam bellowed.
Zack was scanning the walls, eventually coming a crossed a light switch. He flipped the switch expecting it not to work, having long been shut off by now. To his surprise, however, the room was illuminated.
Sam and Alex let curiosity drag them along and began uncovering things, sending dust into the air. The main hall had everything you’d expect to see: chairs, coffee table, big clocks, there was even a large creepy portrait of a Black haired woman sitting on a chair with a brown haired man standing behind her, touching her shoulders. The main feature of the room was the two staircases leading to a balcony.
The room was quite until Alex spoke up, “We should split up.”
Sam lifted an eye brow, “zoinks scoob, lets go check out that groovy pantry.”
Zack shrugged, “Yea, I don’t think that’s a good idea. We should stick together so-“
Alex once again cut Zack off, “so the monsters don’t get us? Given me a break. I’m going to see if I can find a phone, if the lights work maybe the phone line does too. If you two are too scared then go ahead and stay here holding each others hands.”
With that, Alex took off into the depths of the house.
