Down the hallway, you can hear Terrell cry. It makes you sad that your friend is upset. You wanted to help him, but what could you do?
“Sounds like someone’s upset. Terrell used to be a good boy, but lately he’s caused some trouble.” Your caregiver says. He kisses your forehead and lays you back down in your crib.
“Daddy.” You whine, reaching out. He just pushes your pacifier into your mouth and leaves the room, shutting the door. You cry, eventually falling asleep.
When you wake up, you feel yourself being moved. You try to look around, but everything is blurry.
“Looks like baby Cameron is up.” Coos a caregiver. You look up and can see him walking next to your caregiver.
“Benny, are you sure he needs to go to the newborn nursery today?” Your caregiver asked.
“Yes Dan. I’m sorry, but he’s been naughty.” Benny said.
You try to thrash around, but you can’t move.
“See what I mean? Naughty little baby.” Benny cooed. You glared at him.
Dan looked sad. He seems to want to give you a chance.
“Don’t worry, you’ll still be taking care of him, but he needs to learn to act like a good baby.” Benny said. He and Dan turned into a smaller nursery, with only 6 bassinets, and 1 rocking chair by each bassinet. It had 3 changing tables, and a stack of soft blankets.
Dan picked you up and laid you down in your bassinet, smiling at you.
“Okay Cameron, this is where you’ll sleep for the next week. If you behave, you can go back to the big nursery.” Dan said.
Benny wandered off the the far end of the room, reaching a hand into another bassinet.
“Not such a big boy now, right bubba? I know you want to help the other babies by telling them what’s going on, but walking around on your own is against the rules.”
The other boy cries. He sounds familiar.
“Oh, did my little boy use his diaper? I’ll get you all cleaned up.” Benny cooed.
The other boy cried more, sounding very sad. Benny just baby talked to him as he worked, finally getting him in a clean diaper. He shushed the boy and threw out the used diaper.
“There there, daddy’s all done.” Benny said. He washed his hands and picked up the other boy, walking back over to your bassinet.
As they come into view, your eyes go wide. It’s Terrell!
You start to cry, concerning Dan.
“Hey now, no need to cry, bubba. Everything is gonna be okay.” Dan cooed, smoothing out your hair. After five minutes, you are still a mess. Dan reached out for a syringe and fills it with medicine to help you sleep. He injects it in your arm, and you start getting sleepy. The last thing you see is Benny and Dan looking down at you, cooing.
You finally come to hours later. You hate being forced to sleep, it throws you off. You look up at the ceiling, dazed.
The door opens and Dan walks into view. He smiles at you, looking so kind.
“Does Cameron need a diaper change? It’s just about that time.” He coos. You kick a little, feeling something squish in the back of your diaper. You’re mad at yourself for using it.
Just as you expect to be lifted out and carried to one of the changing tables, dan surprises you. He unsnaps your onesie and removes the tapes of your diaper, letting it fall open.
“Such a mess, little one. I think this is just where you belong.” Dan says. You cry as he wipes you down, lifting your legs in one hand to wipe your butt. This was embarrassing on a new level.
Dan shushes you and rubs rash cream onto you before sprinkling you with baby powder and sliding a new diaper under you. He lowers your legs and pulls it up, taping it closed.
“There, that wasn’t so bad.” Dan says. He grabs a large swaddle and lays it out on the floor, laying you on it. He wraps you up snugly and picks you up, putting you in your bassinet again.
“Daddy will see you later.” Dan says, leaving the nursery.
