His foot hovered over the bug, a quick stomp and it would be over. But Kit couldn’t bring himself to do it. The bug looked so pitiful cowering like that. He could almost hear it pleading for its life.
‘Ah shucks’ he thought. ‘I’m not a bully.’
He lowered his foot. It probably wasn’t even the bug’s fault. Got to close with its feelers maybe. He shouldn’t have reacted that way even though he really did hate to be tickled. Kit crouched down to get a better look at the bug. He blinked. Something wasn’t right. He got down lower so that he was nose to nose with the bug. This bug wore clothes. This Bug wore CLOTHES!
Ash had thought for sure it had been the end. Out of fear he’d curled into a fetal position and waited for the end. A rather undignified way to die, when you think about it. Something heavy touched the ground next to him followed by movement. Then he felt hot moist air blow over him. He opened his eyes. Kit was staring directly at him.
He was so close Ash could’ve reached out and touched him. He pushed himself up on the backs of his elbows and watched as he was studied intently.
To be honest, Ash didn’t know what Kit was thinking or what he’d do next. He could’ve easily crushed him moments before and had chosen not to. That didn’t mean he couldn’t still do it. Ash decided to try something. He stood up and waved a greeting.
Kit pulled back in surprise. This wasn’t a bug at all. As incredible as it seemed this was a tiny person. And only Kit knew about it. He looked about to make sure he wasn’t seen and waved back. Then he slowly extended a hand toward the tiny.
