"...Over here..." the voice said. "...behind the bushes..."
Riolu followed the source of the voice throughout the shrubs in front of him and found himself at the entrance to a cave. He nearly fell over when a Banette appeared out of no where.
"...Hello..." greeted the ghost pokemon in the same, whispery voice.
"Hi..." Riolu said meekly. "Who are you?"
"I'm Banette..." said Banette as he bowed slightly. "...and I believe I may have the solution to your problem...Come inside, and I'll explain..."
Riolu followed Banette into the cave. Upon entering, Riolu noticed several small bottles with all kinds of strange objects scattered across the cave, ornate bookshelves with hundreds of old books stacked along the walls, and a cauldron filled with a glowing and bubbling green substance.
"...You see..." began Banette. "...I dabble in...Hmm...'unique' studies...I use this knowledge to help pokemon in need...such as yourself..."
"I...uh...still don't understand..." said Riolu. "What do you want from me?"
"Ohhh...I already have what I want from you..." said Banette, inhaling deeply. "...Your...hatred...your...anger and....your hunger..."
Riolu's stomach gurgled loudly again on that last part.
"I can use the power from these...emotions...to..." continued Banette slowly. "...grant you...a wish."
"A wish?" exclaimed Riolu. "As in: anything I want?"
"Speak your deepest desire to me..." said Banette. "...and I shall make it real!"
Riolu's first thought was to get something to eat. But a big smile spread across his face as he thought of what he really wanted: to be bigger than Machocke! If he was bigger than Machoke, he'd never have to worry about food ever again!
"I wish for something that will make me bigger!" said Riolu eagerly. "I want to be bigger than Machoke!"
"Very well..." said Banette. "...I believe I have just the thing...for you..."
Banette floated around the cauldron in a rhythmic pattern. Muttering what sounded like gibberish to Riolu and occasionally tossing in something off a shelf.
The potion in the pot slowly thickened and stopped glowing, the result being a disgusting black sludge that continued to bubble slowly.
Banette reached his arms into the cauldron and eventually pulled something out of the goop. It appeared to be a black apple with several purple swirl patterns on it.
"What is that?" asked Riolu, a bit afraid of the peculiar object.
"This...er...'apple'...." explained Banette. "...shall grant you that which you desire..."
"So if I eat this...I'll grow big?" said Riolu.
"It'll do the trick...yessss..." wheezed Banette, handing the 'apple' to Riolu.
"Gee, thanks!" said Riolu. Without another word, Riolu dashed out of the cave with the 'apple'.
"I best get...going..." muttered Banette to himself. Both he and his possessions slowly started to fade away. "...don't want to get caught up in...this one...hmm hmm hmmmm!"
Once he left the cave, Riolu looked at the strange fruit he'd received. It certainly looked good enough to eat. But should he eat it now, or eat it right in front of Machoke?
