Jack decided to switch on the CB radio. Hopefully, he could make some use of it. He had started cycling through the frequencies when one caught his attention. "Citizens of Rustone. This is Major Alan Bernard of the US Army. We are broadcasting on this emergency frequency to alert any survivors of our position. We have set up a checkpoint on the Ortega highway 4 miles north of the city as well as at the Jameson motel 5 miles south of the city. We have food, water, and other supplies as well as first aid and have sent several teams into the city to look for survivors. If you come into contact with one of these teams please follow their instructions and do not brandish any weapons or aggressive behavior or you may be shot. If you cannot reach either of the checkpoints provided we advise you to stay in a secure location with no doors or windows if possible."

"Do not make any loud noise and turn off all lights and electricity. While the source of these creatures is unknown we do know that they can be attracted by noise and have at least some form of eyesight. While direct contact is believed to be nonfatal, these beings are extremely dangerous and all contact with them should be avoided at all costs. We wish good luck to you and your families. This message will repeat until the crisis situation is over. ... Citizens of Rustone, this is..." Jack let the message play a second time before switching the radio off. "So the Army's got places where I could be safe." Jack thought to himself "Now it's just a matter of getting there in one piece.". As Jack continued driving he decided to,
