Chapter #4

"I'm from another dimension."

    by: milkbaby Author IconMail Icon
"I'm from another dimension."

"Another dimension?" you reply. "Really?"

She shook her head. "At the time, I was sort of homeless. I came from a broken home and after getting tired of hearing my parents yelling at each other all the time, I just sort of... left."

She tookk another bite of food before continuing. "I wandered around for a few weeks, looking for a job or something, but I was too young at the time. Then one day, a man approached." She frowned at the memory, as if it was unpleasant.

"He was nice to me. Gave me some food. Offered me a job on the spot after I told him about my living conditions. He wouldn't go into detail about it at the time. He only told me that it paid well."

"Next thing I knew," she continued. "I'm being strapped to a gurney, pushed into this whole new world and forced to be someone's pet. I escaped first chance I got. This little girl took me outside to play with her and as soon as she set me down, I ran. I cleared the yard and kept going."

"Anyway, that was over a year ago, I think. Ever since then, I've been on my own."

"Wow," you say after she finished, in awe. "That's amazing."

"So what happens now? Am I supposed to be your pet or something?"

"What?"

"Or do you have plans to sell me to one of your friends?"

"Why would I do that?" you ask her.

"Because it's how your kind is. With me, at least."

"Look..." you struggle to find the right words to say for a moment. "You'd never be my pet. I'd never treat you like that. You're...a person. A tiny person, but still a person."

"And you wouldn't keep me in a cage or anything stupid like that?"

"Not if you didn't want to be," you told her.

"Good, because your kind have treated me like crap since the moment I arrived in this place."

"I..." you look down at her, her tiny arms were crossed over her chest. She was glaring up at you now. She was defiant. Strong. It's probably why she's lasted this long. "Look, I think we've gotten off on the wrong foot. If you want to stay here, that's fine. I'm not going to force you to do anything you don't want to do. Okay?"

"Really?" she asked, sofrening up a little.

"Of course," you continue. "If you don't want to be in a cage, that's fine. If you want to be able to roam free, walk around, that's fine, too. I mean, I still live with my parents, so I don't know how they would feel about you, so maybe just stay in my room for the time being. But it doesn't matter to me what you want to do."

She looks thoughtfully up at you, before replying...
