I’ve been playing a lot in the past week.” James answered, “I guess I’ve gotten a lot better.”
“I guess.” Andrew was not having much fun, so he suggested that they play something else, but James was having to much fun winning for the first time. James was insanely good at the game because of his wish, and Andrew doubted he had gotten that good in a few days. “Dude, have you been holding out on me? You can’t gain that much skill in a few days. It’s not like anyone’s going to judge you for being good at a game.”
“Err... yeah,” James felt uncomfortable with the way this conversation was headed, he wanted to avoid talking about the magic stone at all costs.
“If you want, you can join Fred, Chris and I playing at Fred’s house. I didn’t invite you before because, well, we all thought you sucked, but obviously your pretty good.”
“Uh, okay.” Fred and Chris were the coolest boys at school, so no one would turn down a chance to hang out with them.
That evening, James went up to his room to find the wishing stone. “Shit, where did I put it?” He checked his dresser, but it wasn’t there. He also didn’t leave it on his bed, and it wasn’t on the floor. If he couldn’t find the wishing stone, he would only be able to beat Andrew, and if he played against anyone else, he would seem like a loser.
