Alice was jumping about in the car you drove. The only thing that seemed to restrain her excitement was the seat belt.
"This is going to be great! Wouldn't it be fun to go into the most realistic simulation ever made? My dad's VR is the coolest thing ever! I only got to use it once at first while it was in alpha testing, but it was so awesome! The next version should be even better!" Alice said excitedly.
She talked like this all the time, you thought. But all the same, you still thought that she was great fun to be around. The two of you always ended up in some kind of wacky adventure whenever you were together, and you always loved every minute of it. This time, however, had you both more excited than ever. Neither of you could wait to see what this newly improved virtual reality simulator could do.
Alice even confided to you that she thought it would be a great opportunity to become taller. She was always reluctant to talk about her height, as others often made fun of her for it, but this simulation could allow her change anything about herself or her environment. Even if it wasn't technically real, Alice would still finally be able to live her dream of becoming as tall as she wanted.
"I'm finally going to be tall! Tall like in Attack of the 50ft Woman! No, no, even bigger than that! I'm gonna be so big that I can lift skyscrapers with my bare hands! I'm gonna be big, really really big..."
She held out her arms for effect. You then stopped in a parking space near the lab.
"We're here..." you said to her.
The moment you said it she undid her seat belt and rushed out of the car at a speed that seemed like an Olympic athlete. You picked up some supplies and locked the car. You then waved past security as you flashed your pass and eventually made your way to Section 6 - Comprehensive Simulation Beta Testing. She was already there holding some VR equipment with a man in a white lab coat.
"Hello, is this the VR Room?" You asked politely.
The man turned around.
"Yes, it certainly is. You must be Tom, Alice has told me so much about you. My name is John." he shook you warmly by the hand.
"Pleased to meet you Tom, could we maybe have some coffee?" You asked, exhausted by the long car trip.
"Come on Tom, I just got everything all ready to go. Forget the damn coffee!" Alice said as she held up a VR helmet with a broad grin.
There was no use arguing with Alice in a situation like this. You simply sighed and laid down on the bed as she placed the helmet over your head. You sat there for over a minute feeling ridiculous as she strapped more stuff all over your body.
"Alright, get ready Tom!"
A second later everything went black. Then you suddenly awoke again. What was that all about? You looked around and saw that you were still lying on the bed, your VR gear and Alice was gone. Where did she go? You exited the room and wandered around a bit, but there wasn't anyone in sight. Not a single soul seemed to be inside the pristine laboratory. Now you were really worried. As you entered the empty cafeteria, you sat down at a table and started trying to think about what happened when suddenly...
