Bored one day, you, one Nelson Fitzsimmons, wander into a new store you've seen before in the mall, "Esoteria."
"What is all this?" you wonder, seeing all sorts of strange and exotic objects.
"I see you've come down with a case of... malaise, like the world is too boring." a strange woman says to you from out of nowhere. "Feel like, 'changing the world?' I have just the thing for you."
"Sorry, I don't do drugs." you snarkily quip.
The woman seems flustered, then comes out of the shadows, an average looking woman with long brunette hair, average looks, dressed in jeans, sneakers, and a grey hoodie with "Vassar" written on it, and exclaims, "Drugs?! Do I LOOK like some common pot dealer? This is a veritable vault of mana, boy!!" Slowly, she composes herself. "Sorry about that. I have issues with... skeptics."
"Alright then, lay it on me. What's the spiel?"
"Glad you asked!!" she chirped. She pulled a strange violet composition book out of nowhere. "This is the Tome of Gender... Ever see 'Death Note?'"
"Er, yes." you utter slowly, confused.
"Alright, this makes things quicker and easier on me. Essentially, it works just like the Death Note, but affects gender attributes and sexuality. As with the Death Note, the Tome of Gender has all its rules splayed out on the first couple of pages in plain and clear English, laying how it works and what it can and cannot do."
"Seriously? Are you..." Suddenly you felt like you were falling forever, but it only took a second to notice you were in a realm of infinite cold, wind, and snow. A wave of nausea overwhelms you as you suddenly began spewing whole strawberries out your mouth by the dozen. Before you, the woman stands, still dressed in the same clothes, but now her physical form seems more beautiful and sultry, her chest much larger, inhumanly so, her hair snow white, but most shocking was the giant black angel wings and spaded tail she sported. She reaches into your forehead, but instead of harming you, a rift opens and she pulls out... Kevin Bacon? He seems rather peeved by all of this.
"Dammit, I was on set!!" he grumbles. He takes one look at you and says, "Let me guess - another magic skeptic. Seriously, I know I'm cosmically linked to all life in the multiverse and am the Great Creator, but interrupting me every time you need to make a sales pitch is REALLY grating my nerves, Yvstet. Seriously, I'd think making the poor boy vomit strawberries and revealing your true succubus form would be enough to get the point across without always summoning me."
Kevin Bacon vanishes in a flash of light as the strawberries stop. "THE FUCK?! ALRIGHT, I GET IT!! THE BOOK'S MAGIC!! MAGIC EXISTS!! WHAT DO YOU WANT, WOMAN?!"
"That'll be $12.99!!" she coyly smiles.
You look around the bleak hellscape... which upon looking around a bit, holy hell is that Lucifer in the distance partly frozen in the ice?! She took you to Hell, didn't she?
"You did all of this... for $12.99?"
"Plus tax, remember."
"Wait, you're a demon..."
"Succubus." she interrupts, perturbed. "'Demon' is a blanket term for our whole race, and to throw it out there like that is considered practically derogatory. Learn to recognize your demon sub-types and refer to them as such." She then coughs and shuffles her collar. "Now, with that little piece of demon etiquette out of the way, yes, last i checked, that was the price on the back."
You look on the back, and sure enough, that was the price: $12.99. "Honestly, I was expecting it was going to be cursed, or that I was going to have to pay with my soul, or seeing as you're a succubu..."
"Let me cut you off right there, mister!!" Yvstet interrupts. "Just because I work in a magic store selling magic trinkets to mortals doesn't mean I still don't have to pay my water bill every month, and that whole 'succubi draining humans' lifeforce with sex is a nasty rumor started by the church!!' A few dozen succubi girls decide to seduce some guys in the Middle Ages and they ruin everything for the rest of us. Now I'm either a harlot or gawked at... I'm still a virgin, dammit!! LEAVE ME ALONE!! A DEGREE FROM VASSAR IS JUST AS GOOD AS ONE FROM BROWN, MOTHER!!"
You just stand there and stare, letting her air her issues. Is she done? .........Guess so.
"Alright!! I'll buy it!! C-c-c-c-can we just go b-b-back to the store now? I'm f-f-f-f-freezing!!" you say, shivering.
Suddenly, in a blink, you were back in the store standing before the once-more mostly flat-chested brunette average looking lady. "Thanks for shopping at 'Esoteria.' Please come again!!"
"I highly doubt that..." you say, inching away after she finishes ringing you up.
While at the food court, you look this "Tome of Gender" over. First off, you see most of the pages of this seemingly normal 100-page composition book on the left-hand side are a powder blue, while the right-hand side pages are pink, while the last 10 pages in the book are violet on both sides. You flip the pages back and forth, amazed at how the paper can be one color on one side, another color on the other. All of them, though, are college ruled in black lines. The three rings in the middle holding the paper inside were clearly designed in a binder fashion to allow new paper to be added.
Finally, you notice the first couple of pages in front of the book, which are black sheets of paper with white text, all of which was very reminiscent of the Death Note, given that woman was comparing how it worked to it. The rules were even layed out in a numbered list:
1 A name written in this book will be changed in gender, either entirely or in portion, or have their gender traits enhanced.
2 For the Tome of Gender to take effect, an OWNER must know the first and last name of their TARGET, and the face of whom they intend to change. Upon writing their name, after 42 seconds, the changes will take effect.
3 Once a name has been written in the Tome of Gender and the VICTIM has been transformed, ALL CHANGES ARE PERMANENT. Writing the individual's name in the Tome of Gender again will have no effect on the individual.
4 An OWNER of a Tome of Gender may also fill in details of the VICTIM'S transformation by placing a dash after the name then writing in any degree of detail what one wants to occur, and how slow or fast the changes occur. In this method, an OWNER of a Tome of Gender has far more control of how much or how little a VICTIM transforms, and what they change, including being able to change things like their clothes, intelligence, libido, ethnicity, breast and/or muscle size, and even more esoteric features like animalistic and/or mythical traits.
5 When an OWNER of a Tome of Gender first acquires a Tome of Gender, by default, by only writing a name in a book, the book will transform the VICTIM to a pre-set state roughly the equivalent of as if the individual had been born the opposite gender. Essentially, the book will do the least amount of changes necessary to complete the change by default. However, in the black pages, those defaults can be re-adjusted in case you have a particular favorite set of parameters. These can adjusted as many times as you desire.
6 Regardless of whether a name is simply written or details are filled in with earnest, a name written on a BLUE page will induce masculine changes, and names written on PINK pages will have changes relevant to feminine changes. However, on VIOLET pages, an OWNER may mix and match masculine and feminine gender traits at their discretion, but at the penalty that after every five names written on VIOLET pages, the person who wrote those names will temporarily be transformed to their opposite gender as though their name had been written in the book for a period of 48 hours. This can happen multiple times.
7 Any detailed changes written on an inappropriate page, such as testicular growth on a pink page or pregnancy on a blue page, will not occur. Breaking this rule more than once will result in the change the WRITER attempting to inflict being reflected back upon them.
8 Only an OWNER of a Tome of Gender can see the colors on the pages in the book. Pages removed from the book for torn off work just as well as a page in the book. Adding new pages into the book grants them the power of the book, depending on where in the book you place them.
9 The Tome of Gender's power is primarily for the changing of gender. While vaguely mentioned in Rule #4, the Tome of Gender cannot turn a human into a beast, make them an anthropomorhized version of a beast, nor alter their facial structure to make them more bestial. It CAN however, in the process of modifying a TARGET'S gender attributes, also impart certain animal and/or mythical traits, such as ears, tails, wings, horns, extra arms, extra (rows) of breasts, multiple/animal penii, and tauric bodies.
10 One can reduce the age of a TARGET as far as desired, all the way to one's birth, but the most one can have their age increased is by 15 years, and to ensure age progression is not used as a tool to rob one of youth, anyone aged by the Tome of Gender will have DOUBLE the time they lost added to the end of their lifespan, and they will also not age physically for the same duration they were aged up (If a TARGET was aged up 5 years, they gain 10 years on their lifespan, and for the next 5 years, they stop aging).
11 Unless specifically stated EVERY TIME, the TARGET and all around the TARGET will be aware of the changes happening to the TARGET. An OWNER of another Tome of Gender will always be aware of the magic of a Tome of Gender.
12 An OWNER'S Tome of Gender cannot be used against them. However, it does not protect them from OTHER Tomes of Gender.
