Chapter #5

Father and Mother

    by: Unknown
...and felt an odd heaviness in his gut, before he could investigate it though, Nala said, "good morning my gravid lord, and how are you and yours today."

"I'm fine," Simba replied, "they're, uh..." He paused, momentarily taken aback as he looked down to find that far from his usual powerfully leonine frame, that he sporting a slightly more slender one, with a belly that rivalled Nala's for size. His shock faded quickly though as new memories flooded in, of his horror at the stare of the lionesses, of his literally begging Rafiki to use his magic to help, of the act itself, of the time since... "They're just waking up now."

"They're getting big," Nala replied, turning to place a paw on Simba's bloated middle, and felt a tiny kick, "are they starting to tire you out yet?"

"Not really," Simba replied, "I'm rarely moving above a walk, unlike you."

"Surely they'd be a burden in a fight," Nala asked.

"I suppose they would be," Simba replied, "but things seem to have quietened down of late, there doesn't seem to be that many rogues about at the moment."

"Even so," Nala said, "it doesn't take more than a couple..."

"That's, true I suppose," Simba said, turning the idea over in his head, "still, I don't think it would look right if I were to have any obvious assistance, until I needed it."

"Well I'm sure we can arrange something," Nala replied, "I'd hate it if anything happened to yo-our cubs."

"As would I," Simba replied, "although I don't think the danger's any bigger than, say, that of a hunt going bad."

Nala bit her lip at that, this was probably one reason neither brought the subject up very much, because each considered what the other was doing to be more dangerous. Still, maybe there was a way... "So, if I were to stop hunting and start following you instead..."

"That, I think that wpould be safer for both of us," Simba replied, "of course I know how much you'd dislike having to give up hunting, so I'm not going to force you into it, but please consider it okay."

"I'll do that," Nala replied. And consider the idea she did, though it took until the afternoon to decide to...
