"Does it affect everyone or just my friends?" you wondered. "It doesn't matter. Why should my friends suffer? It'd be best to just swap friends with Jesse. Then I could play as I like with my friends who like it also.."
"I could just swap back right now, but I really want to play with those toys. Jesse had more of an emotional attachment to her toys than you had to any of yours. Was it because she is a girl or because you are older and have come 'cynical'? What did it matter, you wanted to play with these toys. Plus, you didn't know why you would have to play with those shoot-em-up games you had played before. This seemed like much more fun.
You looked on your shelf. There were toys that were both familiar and now to you at the same time. After all, even though you owned them, you knew you hadn't before.
You picked up a doll you particularly liked and a brush and brushed its hair. Not too long after, you got a telephone call.
"Hello."
"Hello Jason, can Susie come over and play?" It was Susie's mother. Susie was a three-year-old who used to be Jesse's friend. Now she is your friend.
"Sure," you liked the idea of playing with someone. It was even more fun than playing alone.
"Great, she'll be right over."
Things had changed. Susie's mother didn't think of you as just plain old Jason anymore. You might be 15, but you were a friend of Susie who was three. Due to the trait swapper no one found it odd the things you played with or who your friends were. You were still mature enough not to be left alone. Susie's mother thought that you and Susie could play together while she ran a few errands. You had in some ways become a no-cost babysitter for the mother of your new friends. A person who they could leave their children with and not have to worry about. You didn't have any of the interests f a teenaged boy. Not anymore.
On your shelf and in your closets more toys appeared. They were gifts you received from the mothers of your new friends. They appreciated you spending time with their little girls.
