Chapter #5Start in the dirt... by: Unknown Mud, dirt, rocks...
They were about all you could see down here.
Not that being underground offered much in the way of scenery, and you were far too busy digging away to care.
More digging... more rocks, in a higher density this time.
It'd take a while before you could get through all this, so now might be as good a time as ever to take a break...
You look back at what you've already done; the tunnels seems... unending, only darkness can seen, even through your eyes...
Hard to believe you've dug so far...
Far from...

It was a peaceful day with your family; your mother had just returned home from hunting, and your father was busy as usual expanding the burrow. You, and your brothers and sisters, were ecstatic to see her again... and your father always seemed relieved too (you always thought that was because of how easily he tires out).
You're a young Dragon, still in your child years. You haven't even learn't to speak yet, not that it helps being the youngest of the litter. Regardless of your speaking prowess, the rest of your body was still on track; your wings are almost fully functional, your teeth are useable, and your scales were already hard as rock (a rather weak rock at that, but still a rock). Your family's colours were almost the same as the dirt you lived under, which gave some great camouflage... and also opportunities for games such as hide and seek.
"Honey! Kids! I'm Home!"
A resounding choir of 'Mommy!' followed shortly after.
From the looks of it, her hunt had gone well, as she arrived with 3 Deer carcases in tow (one appeared to had been mostly eaten already).
Now that your teeth had some time to develop, your mother had approved to moving on to more 'solid' foods. The first time you had tried meat, it seemed like a delicacy... it was something to savour for a life-time.
Your first BONE on the other hand...
"Nice to see you dear." Your father replied.
"You too. The kids didn't give you much trouble did they?"
You mind quickly switched to the deer you were currently eating; it's soft fur... tender meat... blood still dripping... the tough bo-BONE! Avoid! AVOID!
Your sudden shock caught the attention of your entire family, causing you to blush furiously in embarresment. You could even heard the sound of your siblings as you try to resume your meal.
"You win this round..."
"Oh, I see..." Your mother sighed.
You think they've switched to conversation to you...
But then she giggled as she walked towards you.
"Hmhm, don't worry though, that just makes you so much more cu-"
A roar in the distance had cut her off, causing hers, and your father's, eyes to widen in shock.
Though you and your Siblings had nothing but curiosity for this sound; none of you knew what it meant.
In fact... you're still not even sure what happened...
everything in between's been a blur...
...panic, screams... the glare from an unknown face...
...escape...

You try and bring yourself awake after remembering that dragon's gaze it had on you, sending shivers through your spine just by thinking about it.
Nothing had changed since you had dozed off; same old tunnel... same old rock...
You take another look back. Your father always wanted an escape tunnel... but your not sure if this is what he had in mind...
You try to get back to digging your way forward, but your body's still numb from your previous work, even after the nap.
So you give up that idea and go back to sleep; it'd take a lot more work to get through here...
...How long have you been down here anyway...? indicates the next chapter needs to be written. |
